RoK - RIP EQ2
I think the new expansion (while new and exciting for the first 4 months or so), will help EQ2 fall firmly flat on it's face.
Sure they want to get people to group together more and quest more - I'm happy enough with the solo quests and rewards available, and I do enjoy grouping/raiding with guildies or decent PU's. But why take away the injection of real players cash into the Norrath Economy and the supply of masters etc from real players by not giving us some areas where we can solo with potentially decent drops? I've heard people saying masters are dropping from trash with reasonable frequency, but that is just crap.
To have the option also of having a shard in your house so you can switch profiles, indicates a move by SOE to give us the option to switch between a solo and group setup. I'd like to know what the point of the shard will be once all the solo quests are complete? As I see it, once I finish the last few quests and get up to 140 AAs, I'll be switching to a group setup and that will be that.
Also, once we all get to 80/140 IMHO the vast open areas of he game become utterly useless. Sure it's nice to look at, sure we have a way of getting through the zones quickly to get to the instas we want to play in, but why spend such a vast amount of development time on these massive zones when you don't fill them with exciting content apart from single solo trash?????
I'd really like to know WTF SOE was thinking about in terms of who they want to retain and gain in terms of their existing and new customer base. With the last expansion some of us were able to solo Nest, PP, SoS, ToS etc. and various heroics in the open areas in order to try and drop some masters and other stuff (for your muter maybe) so it could be sold on the broker and earn you a decent income.
Now in the new expansion, I see no possibilities to be able to solo any instances or heroics in order to have a chance of dropping any 70+ spells/equipment that will sell on the broker, or that would be an upgrade for yourself.
While I understand the possible motive in a move towards taking some content away from the real farmers (and by real farmer I mean those who sell the plat they make for RL cash) I think realistically plat sellers can still easily multibox some of the hard zones and still make the plat that SOE want them to stop making. IMHO the only people really losing out are the people who have built good solo plyers who now no longer have any use for them. Really, there are no decent areas to solo with the chance of dropping a 71-80 master etc and I just don't see the sense behind the changes in the new expansion.
If they want to make the game so that for the most part only people who group/raid have a chance of getting nice loot, then I think they are taking away a part of the game that was exciting, fun and profitable for many people and it's a real shame.
In addition to the whine on the solo content, I'd like to understand why SOE makes such huge zones, when they only put like a small amount of heroic dungeons into them? And another thing, wtf is with most of the mobs in the instas dropping wood? You've taken away the chance of solo players looting decent gear, so why not make it a decent drop rate in the dungeons instead?
If anyone from SOE is reading this - please think about some of the points, and see if you can find ways to balance the game out after the hurried and poorly thought out RoK expansion.

Re: RoK - RIP EQ2
soloer dont need master or gear superior to treasured/crafted.
i m disgust at the quality of quest reward. WAY TOO GOOD for the difficulty.

Re: RoK - RIP EQ2
there have been plenty of master spell drops from solo mobs. Hell i've gotten numerous ones just from the drachnid caves.
Soloers and people who like to group dont need the same quality spells/gear as people who raid do, so there is no need for frequent drops of masters. The gear quality from the solo quests IMHO are way too good for the solo people so you should be happy with that alone.
I'm kinda glad that there are "lack" of masters out there right now and even less chance from named in overland zones. 1) it limits the bots from farming named to sell masters etc so they can sell plat for RL cash. 2) now it means that a master is worth something if you get one just like it was in T5. If you had a master then you felt like you were on top of the world. Masters were way too easy to get in DOF, KOS and EOF and everyone and their mother nearly were fully mastered out and that didnt set anyone apart from being a raider or a soloer.

All open areas are good for soloers, and they give good drops.... for SOLO players.

I really couldn't read all that. So in conclusion, no, I don't really think so. The game won't end because of this expansion. It wasn't that bad. As long as SoE looks at what the players want and if they made mistakes then adjust them, fix them, the game will coontinue to suceed.

Re: RoK - RIP EQ2
I like that they've made soloing heroics harder. It was a joke in the last expansion(s) to see 2/3rds of heroic content basically solo farms.
But that said, for the right class (e.g. Necro) you absolutely can still kill almost anything heroic with the right strat and some skill. On the other hand, if you're trying to solo heroics with a bad solo class, well that's like trying to tank a raid with a Wizard then complaining about spike damage.
To put it another way; how many people were solo farming Nest 3 weeks into KoS? Just because the approach, class and masters/gear needed for soloing something like Crypt hasn't been plastered all over the forums doesn't mean it's impossible.

Re: RoK - RIP EQ2
Well, I've soloed my necro up to 77 so far, and have yet to see a master drop. However, a couple of people in my guild have had them fall, so it is still possible. I remember solo mobs dropping masters pretty dang infrequently before this expansion, so no biggie there in my opinion. (The fact it happens at all I view as a windfall, and am happy for the small chance, personally)
As for trying to make money, actually, killing solo mobs en masse isn't bad anyway. Just selling the body drops to the vendor, along with the random cash you pick up, nets you some solid money.
Also, if tomorrow no heroics were soloable by any class, that wouldn't break my heart any. That hasn't happened, but if it did, I would freak out about it.

Re: RoK - RIP EQ2
I've gotten two masters so far from Solo mobs. One was a Warlock master and the other a Dirge both came from the Fens. Made 170 plat from selling both of them.
So excuse me if I have a hard time believing the statement about masters not dropping from solo mobs.
