If not for all the soloers, would there be enough people playing to support raiders? If all the soloers left to play single-player games or even some other online game that treated them with respect and not the contempt you think they deserve, would you still have a game? Would your accomplishments mean as much if you didn't get to make others envious of them?

To your questions, Yes.
Raid guilds are pretty self-sufficent.
Not saying family guilds are not sufficent, I like family guilds too
I never said I hated the solo player, just the fact they expect their gear to be equal to the raider, when the effort is not equal.
Not talking about skill, there are skilled soloers out there.
I don't choose my gear to make others jealous, I choose it to make my character the best it can be.
And, I like working as a team with my guild to go places, see things, and kill mobs I would not be able to if I were solo.

Killing contested is progression over raiding instances - which is a progression over grouping - which is a progression over solo - which is a progression over solitaire. If the gear does not match the progression level, then wtf reason is there to do it other than epeen *oh my guild can kill X mob*.
Is this whole mentality of everyone has to be equal despite the effort a flowover from real life? It really appears that people want everything possible with no work and cry discrimination (not saying racial, it applies to many many area's) when its not immediately made available. Sit down, shut the fuck up and work for your supper you whiny bitches.

I'm not surprised that an inbred fuckwad like you would get this backwards. In EQ2, there is absolutely nothing easier than a raid. Unless it's a raid with a loser guild (which your's probably is) where everyone is too busy pulling their puds instead of paying attention to what the fuck they should be doing.

Wrong
Solo'ing is beyond simple if you play any mage class and most scout classes. The only time solo'ing could ever be considered difficult is if you are doing it as a warrior or several of the priest classes.

I don't think we're discussing single player games here, unless EQ2 has suddenly become a single player game. Which would not necessarily be a bad thing, since then my chat window would be emptied of the juvenile drivel that it has provided to me for the past 3 years.
The person who initially referenced EQ1 forgot the fact that EQ1 was VERY group dependent.
Soloing is not ment to be the normal game style in MMO's, which is why they always stress the community dynamic.
Soloing should be something to do while your waiting for a group or have just a little time to spare not how you spend all your time online.
People who only solo in EQ2 are, I think, a very small part of the subscriber base. It just so happens that they tend to be quite vocal on the SOE boards. The majority of EQ2 players are group play oriented and tend to solo out of necessity rather than preference, but also go on raids when possible.
Solo'ers and small group content abounds in this expansion, so enjoy it, but there is also some content for raiders.
If you like soloing, by all means, solo.
Just don't cry foul and complain that raider's gear is better than yours, cause by all rights it should be. By right? Is that a right granted by the Constitution of the United States of America? Or is this right granted by some recognized authority? Is it a God given right? Please explain.
The legendary gear in this expansion is better than my fabled from last expansion, in some cases, so you are on par with the last expansion now.
Grats.
Don't hate me when my gear is back to being better than yours, cause while you spend this time harvesting rares, shineys, and masters to sell to me at rediculous prices, I will be spending that time raiding, and HOPING for the chance at a piece of gear upgrade.
Raiders and Soloers may invest the same amount of time online, but we spend that time concentrating on different things. Gotta disagree with you on this point. Soloing is something most players engage in because they are not able to commit to marathon raiding sessions every day and often times do not want to join a group only to bail after a brief time. Why do you think the devs decided to implement persistent raid zones if not to provide access to raid content to a broader audience?
Put it this way, if you and I both start a Swashbuckler (using this for the example, cause that's what I am!) I concentrate on getting my STR up, you concentrate on getting your STA up (God only knows why you would do that??), and all gear is the exact same.
You shouldn't complain when I butt-rape you in a duel, because my damage pwns yours like a fat kid getting blown up in dodgeball. If all gear is the same in this example, then what is the point of this example within the context of this discussion?
Point being, fabled gear is harder to get than ANY other type of gear (other than mythical, but that's beyond rare, so not really an arguement), so by all rights it should be better! Again with the 'rights' business. Fabled gear is actually no harder to get than legendary, and it could even be argued that it is no harder to get than treasured, possibly even common. It does, however, take a great deal more playing time to obtain. Anything in this game is achievable if only you are able and willing to spend enough time playing.
The idea that gear should revert to a lesser grade of equipment, when not raiding, is the dumbest thing I have ever heard! You apparently don't read enough of the truly stupid posts that populate both this forum and the SOE forum. The concept of varying gear stats based on encounter difficulty is actually intriguing. However, I agree that it is not the best solution. I think that revising the trivial loot code would be a better solution. If you kill a solo mob (regardless of level differences) while equipped in raiding gear, you should get no reward. No experience. No quest updates. No loot. (Besides, you're already in Fabled gear so what would you need with that Treasured shit anyway?)
Please log out and delete yourself IRL. I'd recommend that you log out and perhaps attempt to get a life.
Why even raid, if your reward gets diminished? Because I'm very happy with the size of my penis (proud actually) and playing raid content in an MMO is fun.
How about epics when they are implemented?
So, you spend 4 months getting an average weapon, that only has spectacular stats when your in a raid? Not likely.
And, what about when your doing a contested raid mob in a normal zone? The lag would be incredible when the server would have to change everything from crap to fabled.
So, you would start complaing about the lag even more when a raid was preping in the zone you were farming...I mean soloing in.

Depends on what you're trying to solo there, Sparky. Rats and snakes don't count.
And none if it is difficult. You either can defeat the encounter by yourself, or you cannot.

I really think this generation of DikuMUD MMOs (WoW/EQ2) will be the last to have a major title that includes (PvE) raid content.
It's far easier to produce battlegrounds/Frontiers/raid vs raid/siege PvP content, and see it used by a bigger majority of the playerbase, than it is to make raid zones that under 1% of the total population uses. I'd go as far to say that PvP will be the new endgame in MMOs. Look at any MMO on the horizon and... they're all PvP.
There will still be PvE progression, but I very much doubt it will be raid-oriented.

Re: The waaaa-factor
I agree about PvP becoming the new endgame. I'm all for it as long as (a) I don't have to kill zones full of cows to participate in it, and (b) my spells don't resist at a rate that sends me into hysteria.
