Yes they should in secret and without abusing their powers. Should not be leading raids or divulging tactics though.

They should raid though, that way they can see what we go through for this stuff and take that into account when making new zones or revising old ones.

I want a 4th option... only on test servers and only with other devs/retired raiders. I wouldn't trust most people to completely keep their identity secret. Sooner or later it would get out who they are.

To go back to the original question I would have to say no, devs should not be in live raid guilds at all but more to the point live raid guilds should not allow them to join and if this whole debacle hasn't taught guilds that having a dev on the guild rosta will lead everyone to assume that you are getting stuff handed to them on a plate then I don't know what will.

Is it really worth taking the risk of being outed as having a dev in ranks and having every single one of your kills questioned going back over the last three expansions?

Is it really worth taking the risk of being outed as having a dev in ranks and therefore virtually guaranteeing that filling open slots in your raid force is going to be really really difficult from the moment that it's known because 99% of players want to feel their achievements will be congratulated not ridiculed?

Whilst it may seem simple to say "let the dev join so long as their identity is a secret" but the problem with that is that secrets always, and I mean always, get out and when they do the brown smelly stuff hits the fan and covers everyone no matter how innocent in SH1T.

So I say no to devs being in live raid guilds, no good can come of it.

I don't have the time to read through 25 pages of posts atm, but to all the ppl who voted yes but only if they keep their identity secret.....why?!? Do you really think that a coder who knows all the mechanics to a mob is going to join a raiding guild and even if they didn't spoon fed the rest of the guild the strat off the start is going to sit back and not say anything when their guild dies 10 times in a row trying an encounter. NO! The coder is going to say hey you fucking retards the mob does this so we need to do this.

everyone who works at soe in any function that has to with eq2 should play the game, but on the test server and not on live servers, just my 2 cents though.

I'm no dev, but I have "downgraded" in guilds before, moving from a more hard core, further progressed guild to a smaller, more casual guild. And I sure as hell kept my fuckin mouth shut in regards to strat. I have done Vyemm 5 different ways, through a few guilds and pick up raids. If a dev is really incapable of controlling him/herself, then he/she shouldn't raid.

It's a question of professional ethics. I voted this way but with a clause in mind; their penis has to be over 9 inches in rl. That way they never feel the need to whip it out in game and unveil their e-peen of uberness in knowledge. But in all seriousness, the devs that have joined raid guilds and are guilty of releasing information they must hate their jobs to feel no loyalty to a big company like SOE and prob feel like they got, "one up on the man" every time they broke professional ethics.

So suffice of what you have said there are still rightious people in the world that only do the right things and it is possible to have devs in guilds without leaking information, but in a company like SOE who prob treat their employees like they treat their gaming communities, why would they. We all new this dirty little secret for a long time was happening I just don't understand why it has to be an issue now when it should have been nipped in the ass a long time ago.
