What I'm hearing in this thread is that nobody, not even the most knowledgeable people in EQ2 about tradeskills, really knows how transmuting will work once EoF is released.

Am I missing something here, or doesn't that really mean this will be unfinished when EoF is released?

We know how Transmuting will work; we don't know how much of the tweaks we've been promised will make it in by tomorrow.

Transmuting hasn't changed it's basic form since it appeared in Beta. You get a Transmutable item, you transmute it and get one of a couple results. You use those results to make an Adornment or sell them to Artisans to make Artisan-only Adornments.

Ya, everyone keeps quoting this theory, this structure of how it's supposed to work.

But nobody knows exactly what it will take.

In my view, that's a huge looming problem.

The structure is mostly in place. Things that are changing are:

requiring Fabled to level over skill 100
the stupidly high amount of combines required for a skill point.

Here's what I posted for my guild LFG. For Transmuting, Hope this helps. All of this is as it was on Beta this past Saturday.

You start with skill level 10. Which means you can transmute items that are level 1 or level 2. Every 5 skill points you gain represents a new level of gear, drops you can transmute.

Transmuting is a skill in your abilities tab. When you click on it you can drag it onto a piece of gear, your mouse will be glowing, and if it is transmutable the process will start.

After the gear is destroyed you will get either a Fragment, Powder, Infusion or Mana Vail.

I used lapis lazuli and made a ton of Adept III's to transmute. After Transmuting 15 level 2 Adept II's I had only gotten 5 skill ups.

The Items you can transmute are
Legendary Gear (Quest rewards don't seem to work)
Fabled Gear
Adept I's
Adept III's
Rare Crafted Gear

Most of it is either crafted or chest dropped so expect to mentor or waste a lot of rares.

I may have been doing something wrong but I'll be damned if it didn't seem like it was going to be the most resource intensive project ever.

They call you a week before EoF launches and completely turn your life upside down even though you already know the end result

Flames now has 0 support from anyone. No TTH, no Zam (although I'm not sure how much there was), no SOE, no one.

Do you Remember Augments during OoW in EQ1?
thats how it is 'suppose' to work Crafters Create the 'Adornments' and Adventurers attach them to there items. From what i have heard it is class specific, for example Weaponsmiths make Weapon procs Armorer do uh something... I heard Carpenters make Mitigation adornments.. which i hope isn't true cos it is fucked up that they could and not armorers.

uh..please explain what part you dont understand LFG? you just keep saying 'how is it suppose to work?'

Ya, there is no doubt in my mind about how the system is supposed to work.

My only questions involve how do you get the items needed for skillups.

Let me be more clear:

As far as I can tell, you need a tier 1 legendary or rare item to be able to destroy, so you have a chance at getting a skill up and can start working with Tier 2 items.

I'm level 70. I don't think my lowest alt even is below Tier 3.

The legendary and rare items you need to destroy to make a transmuted item are 100% chest drops. Not a one is a body drop.

The mobs that drop those items are 100% gray. They will never drop a chest for me. No way am I gonna make alts to farm rares to level up my main. What seems to me will happen is farmers will take over nub zones, keep them constantly clear by ae'ing and such, just to farm tier 1 and 2 legendary and rare items they can sell to higher levels for 10 g+ each.

Am I wrong in any of my assumptions or info above?

If not, this simply isn't going to work. Doesn't anyone else see total disaster ahead?
