I hope you are correct, and see how this could be the case. The use of an in game "broker" window for the exchange servers is a cool idea...for them of course. :-)

I don't recall, but I did start a thread about it somewhere on this site a while back.

David D Christensen.
The press release mentioned in that article by Smed indicates this recent development is really no surprise, but now it has some legs.
"After having seen Station Exchange running for over a year now, I’ve come to see RMT in an entirely different light and I believe the real future of RMT is actually a really bright one if we can work on our game designs in such a way as to make it a cool part of the games. Imagine an MMO without a subscription fee that has Station Exchange built into it. However, the game is designed in such a way as to only allow the sale and transfer of non-game impacting items. What if an in-game tailor had the toolset to actually put cool designs on clothing and literally make them custom for different players, and then that person could open a virtual storefront on Station Exchange. That’s the kind of cool thing we see in the future and frankly it’s the direction we want to steer things. To create an ecosystem for players to make money from these games while they’re having fun."
Smed

i am not saying 'zomg the sky is falling'
im not even saying this will be a HUGE change
but you cannot sit there and tell me this is a step in the RIGHT direction for EQ2, or any MMO for that matter.
and for you to try and justify it by saying 'hey, its business. and thats where the money is' only enlightens us to your idiocy.
guess what? there is a lot of money to be made by being Britney Spears. but that does make it good, or right?
no matter what spin you try and apply to this, big or small, it is a step in the WRONG direction

His name is David Christensen and yeah I wasn't happy about them bringing him on. I think you might be misreading a few people also. There is a huge difference between supporting RMT in a traditionally built game vs one designed to have RMT as a major mechanic.
Now if you have a problem with a game having RMT as a major mechanic...you are really going to get sadder over the next 5 years. The "traditional" market where you pay a monthly sub and play is shrinking rapidly and alternate business models are being explored. Western culture has fought it, but we are no longer the dominate market.

You should look out there at other MMOs that don't use the subscription model. I don't see how this is a step in ANY direction for EQ2. Then again, I guess people just jump to conclusions everytime. I mean c'mon, everybody is doing the same song and dance as when Station Exchange came out. Big fucking deal.

Re: SOE Licenses 3rd Party RMT Company for In Game Virtual Property Sales
Sooo, uhhhh, Station exchange servers will now become non-RMT servers and all the rest go cha ching.
That way those of us who like to actually play for our rewards can, without seeing little Sammy with his mommy's credit card, or Josh with his spare income running around in full fabled and not knowing the first thing about raiding.
Yeah, if they actually restructure all of EQ2 to accomodate RMT more easily, like taking no-trade tags away, or straight up selling some of the best gear you can, or can't obtain in game, I'll hang it up.
If it's restricted to Exchange servers, I dont give a fuck really.

SE participation is currently elective. Unless the plan is to leave some servers as is, this appears to be game-wide. There is a huge difference.

Maybe I'm reading a different Press Release than yours. Because I see 0 mention of Everquest in it. I also see no mention of it being about game-wide, I see mention about legitimizing $ for plat. Which is what Station Exchange already does, except now it looks like they're expanding it, and for all we know, could be doing it for a new differently modeled game. But of course, we all just jump to the conclusion that this is inherently bad for EQ2 just like when Station Exchange was announced. Times haven't changed at all for most of the people posting here, they are rehashing the same argument over and over again for the same thing that has already been done.
