If SOE is going to RMT, then they're just catering to a different market. They don't want people who play RPGs. They want kids with access to their parents credit cards.

Which means I quit and look for a company that is catering to my market.

Which to be honest, I'm already thinking of doing. Everquest 2 has really gone downhill. Quest after quest that is a joke, endless easter eggs, endless cutesiness. They sell cola in Omen's Call. I got an ewok pet with RoK. Designers trying to make me laugh when they should be trying to make me apprehensive. It's not really an RPG anymore.

No big drama about it really. Just a parting of the ways

I always like reading threads like this. You'd think the freaking apocalypse was upon us or something.

The way I look at is is like this. Take everyone in the game except me, every stinking one, and give them 500, 5000, whatever number, or plat, instantly. Give me nothing. What changes?

Nothing. The market will adjust, I'll sell my stuff for more, and be able to afford the same stuff I could before because people are buying my items for higher prices than ever before.

Why's that? Virtually all the major Asian games follow this sort of a model, and that's a market with tens of millions of players. To say the genre is dead is absurd - the subscription model is clearly the minority approach at this point.

It could be that they are thinking about putting in an Item mall where you can just directly buy LoN type loot cards with a credit card. Lots of games have Item malls as part of their micro payment programs. Like it or not it is becoming a big trend in MMO gaming.

You contradicted yourself.

Which is it, nothing changes?

Or the market adjusts?

I seriously doubt this will ever touch EQ2. This is far more likely going to be used with FreeRealms and The Agency. I wonder what FunCom has planned to take advantage of this, too. And Acclaim. This goes far beyond just SOE.

it is just sad that the market is going to this as I will not, nor will I ever participate in a RMT based MMO. If this happens and is the driving direction of MMOs, the genere WILL be dead to me.

As long as it dones't touch FPS games I won't care anymore. That's where I'm headed as soon as this hits the patch notes. And they made the xbox vs ps3 decision for me. I'll be done with sony.

You do realize that Microsoft is pursuing many of their own RMT initiatives.

Will you also be boycotting FunCom and Acclaim, since the'yre partners in this?

There is no contradiction, the market always changes. Any item placed on the broker adjusts the market. Any item bought adjusts it. It is no different.

I suppose my question would be for people who are willing to quit if RMT goes in. (Well, they SAY they are going to, will give them benefit of the doubt). Why? What is so bad about RMT that you will quit a game that you were apparently enjoying up til now?
