You can already sell plat for RL money anyway, so what would the difference be really?

I sell plat, I don't buy it, in case you were wondering. I have no reason to buy it as my guild does plat splits.

No. You've seen people either say baseless shit (MMOs aren't on consoles!) or give their opinion that they hate RMT.

Opinions vary, everyone has one and usually only mine matters.

But the other BS being spouted in this thread is for the most part simply untrue.

Anyway, for the people actually interested: why don't we just have a poll. "Why do you NOT play on a SE server?"

1. Because I'm a guildhopper.
2. Because I like the danger of being punished/banned for breaking the EULA.
3. Because I'm making reet prat famer who lives in his basement with his mom and sells plat for an extra 2 tabs on a sheet to drop during gym class.

You can also puzzle openly about why everyone's apparently so upset about the recent SOE deal when they were all simply being pieces of shit along with you in the first place.

RMT by nature, is designed for those who desire that instant gratification. The ability to pay $20, and avoid hours of questing or grinding appeals heavily to them. The problem with this, is that those types of players are quick to get bored, and move on to something else. With the ability to purchase your way through most of the game, once you reach the end, theres little to hold your attention. RMT allows you to sidestep most of the challenge and feelings of accomplishment leveling your toon, and as such you don't develop the same type of bond with the game or your character as non-RMT players.

What will happen is that all SoE's money will be front loaded. They'll receive a nice chunk of cash when the RMTers start playing, but after a year or so when they get bored and move onto other things, this will pose a huge problem. Your game won't survive if your only making money the first year or 2 after its released.

The people against RMT are the ones who play MMOs for years on end. They've played through the game without purchasing items, and as such have built a much stronger bond with their toon, and the game as a whole. Now SoE won't have any longer term income, since they want nothing to do with the game.

I don't see RMT becoming the wave of the future. It's just a quick fix to make some money until a more viable business model is available. With RMT, instead of MMOs being designed to last 6-7 years, they'll be made to last 1-2. This way those companies can keep churning out MMOs, and will be able to throw a new game at the RMTers when they get bored with the old one.

It will no longer be profitable to develop huge flagship titles like WoW or EQ2 for RMT. Instead you'll see upgraded versions of the games advertised here. And it will more or less just be a staple for companies chasing the quick buck (or a smaller project in their gaming portfolio for some companies), and willing to churn out game, after game, to hold their attention.

There will always be non RMT MMOs on the market, since those games will be much more stable and a steady source of income. While RMT games will usually be quantity, at the cost of quality.

Of course this is based on Western markets. Eastern philosophy and tastes are decidedly different than our own. So what works there, may not neccesarily work here, and vice versa.
