Life never offered an even playing field to start on. MMOs, however, have historically offered everyone the same oppurtunities, where the fruits of those oppurtunites were solely dependent upon the person's abilities and desires within the game.
|
The game isn't a level playing field now. If one person can play more hours than another can, (and everyone is a little different), than the field is not "even".
In essence, what RMT really does, is allows a person who doesn't/can't play as often to "buy" that extra playing time.

Well, I can safely say I am not following you there. It looks to me I responded directly and in context to what you commented on.
Oh wait...I get it. The fact I had the unmitigated gall to respond in a literate manner to something pertinent on these boards was a catastrophic error. Dang. I should have made some your momma jokes or something.

No, not at all. Maybe I was little harsh on you thinking you were someone else. See below...

First Sentence...
The point was that when you come into life you do not start on an even playing field by virtue of your circumstances, be they rich, poor, healthy, sick, whatever...
Second sentence...
When you start in an MMO you start out exactly like everyone else, and everyone has the exact same oppurtunities open to them. In that regard the playing field is completely even.
People either make use, or do not make use, of those oppurtunites. The fruits of their labors are born in the game from an equal starting point.
The old "I don't have time but I sitll deserve it" argument is played out, not only in this context, but also with regards to loot quality, content, etc... If you do not take advantage of the oppurtunites afforded you in the game I do not feel you should be able to subsitute cash for effort on a server where it has never been officially sanctioned before.

Well, no. People in beta may have a heads-up on those not in beta. Other people may start with their friends, perhaps moving over as a guild, thus giving those people ready access to groups. Sometimes, things like pre-orders or special editions can provide bonuses. In other words, the game is not truely a level playing field at the beginning.

Lol. You are now just arguing for the sake of arguing Cas. So what you are saying is that a door of oppurtunity is closed to those who do not beta, have friends join at the same time, or pre-order? Is that really your contention? Here let me quote myself you can take issue with this if you really want to.
When you start in an MMO you start out exactly like everyone else, and everyone has the exact same oppurtunities open to them.

Re: Time to vote with the all mighty dollar ?
Funcom couldn't have timed the new release date of Age of Conan any better, cause it will be at exactly the same time as all this starts to really hit the fan, and it's the first game I've seen that I could see myself playing instead of EQ. Fun, addictive, requires some thought..plus you get to dismember people and sort of choose the level of your pvp participation and seige castles with catapults and stuff..it's sooooo own right now..
Just wait..
