The two aren't contradictory, but bandwidth, developers and servers cost money.

Except your new MMO is "Mo Money Online". The rest of us just want to game. Finding new ways to milk gamers for $$$ is not progress, unless you publish video games. Have fun with EverGaia, maybe you can wrack up some credit card frequent flyer miles while you purchase your progression.

Actually, if you look at the numbers, monthly costs tend to be less for games financed by virtual item purchase. Your average MapleStory player, for example, spends far less than $15/month to play.

Not sure if you played SWG or knew what happened there. Basically they broke the game bad and refused to revert their changes. They lost more than 95% of their player base over a two week period. Still they did not fix it but continued in their direction. Less than 6 months ago at a game developers conference they still defended their stance and said they made the right choice. It wasn't until 2 months ago I finally saw Smedley say they made a mistake.

Play the game if you like it but don't expect them to fix major issues ever. Boycotting it sends zero messages. They are just that hard headed that even losing couple hundred thousand subscriptions had zero effect on them.

And you honestly believe that SoE isn't breaking even with it's subscription base?

SWG is a special situation due to the licensing agreement with Lucas Arts. If Lucas Arts says jump, SOE says how high.

The person with the highest credit limit wins. I think you aren't looking at the ripples after the splash. Fairness with a price tag. You starting to get it?

That depends on what is being sold. In most cases, virtual item sales are limited to 'fluff' items. However, if the game model was basically buy your way to winning it wouldn't be very successful, now would it?

They're selling alot more than 'fluff' on SE.

My financial status should not determine my effectiveness in MMOs. This is a video game, not a Country Club.

Bullshit on the smoke and mirrors attempt, fanboi. Ingame gold and pre-leveled toons aren't 'fluff'.
