Of course, there are exceptions, but the norm does not suggest that people are buying their way to the top as you fear.
Purchasing an Avatar geared toon isn't buying your way to the top?

wish i could do this myself, but being that im 18 in june, still at home, and always short on cash, my account is probably only active 11 months out of the year on average anyways, with it on hold every time i pay it up. however, if i can get into age of conan beta as soon as i get my new X2900GT w/ 1GBGDDR4 (old card wouldnt run it, so DENIED) this week, i can see playing the game for half the expansion, living it up, seeing if it is really worth it, and quitting. i have always been a gamer, and i find it hard to simply drop a game i have been playing for so long without something to replace it.

regardless though, im all for a movement like this. i have been playing eq2 since a week after launch, lived through the shitfest that was LU 13 with my original toon while canceling my other account and letting my 35 ranger (at the time quite a feat for 3 months casual play) rot. came back mid kos, been playing since, busted out a new box account since i lost the info for the old one, been playing in the raid scene ever since. the game has grown quite a bit, and up until rok launch i was really enjoying the direction in which it was going more or less. from what i have seen though rok raiding looks to be suck, and tbh soe is starting to drop the ball on a lot of shit at once. resources ran thin and it all came through what really goes on behind the scenes at times. as of now my shit is on life support, and unless things shape up to be better in a few months than they are now i doubt im going to be around for the next expansion other than as another casual player, who logs in just to chat with people and hang with friends

Better? Ok, I have now no doubts, you must be Smed in disguise so you can talk shit.
First: in a game based on progression, limiting the advancement to those able to afford with RL money is bullshit, so is buying characters not developed by you.
Second: I have no trouble saying that hardcore raiders are both better players than me and more "successful" at the game than I am, if I have shit to do as well. Removing the incentive for me to try and get up where they are when I can just fork some bucks and be the same as them, is disillusioning both for me and the majority of them.

We "old players" will move on sooner or later anyway and you'll be able to enjoy your SoE-branded shitgames in your circlejerk of losers, while I'll play QUALITY titles made by other companies that don't feel the need to charge me for every shit I want to get.

Honestly, people like you disgust me. You talk without even knowing what the fuck you're talking about most of the time and are often too busy in your fanboi campaign to realize a simple truth: make a game really good and people will give you their mothers to play it (see WoW), if it sucks, every single cent they charge is a fucking insult to the intelligence of the players (see Vanguard).

Anyway at this point I can say EQ2 has no future, devs moving away and resources being moved to "potentially more profitable" templates are spelling doom left and right.
I canceled my account and will be gone in two weeks, if you want my stuff, please use paypal.

Hey, what do expect from someone who views EQ2 as a virtual amusement park?

And what is wrong with that view, given the context in which I said it?

Holy fuck you are ignorant.$20k dollars=£10k wages per year. Thats is way way way below the European wage. The average wage in the uk is £15k-$30k us dollars

I heard that everyone that cancels their account as part of this "movement" recieves a lifetime supply of tinfoil and a new game.

(P.S. - The "Can I have your stuff" question I asked long ago still stands.)
