It's not Vista per se. I've had 2 accounts up recently using Win XP Pro, Vista 32 and Vista 64 so the OS isn't the problem.

Trying a different OS might work anyway though. You could also try updating windows, motherboard drivers, trying different vid drivers, etc. It defintely ain't the hardware specs, since folks have been boxing with pretty weak systems for a long time.

It could be you're using a Sound Blaster card. Creative makes decent sound cards, that have horrible driver issues which can, even with sound disabled, cause you to crash. It got to the point for me that I said fuck it and started using my not as good built-in sound because it actually let me 2-box. Stupid sound card.

Can try this for X2 chip as well:

AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual Core Processor Utilities and Updates

AMD Dual-Core Optimizer.

Also can try going to task manager -> processes -> right click the eq2 exe file and set affinity and force each copy to run on its own thread and not let windows manage it though the above optimizer should resolve issues regarding this.

Meh ive 3 boxed on xp and vista with no issues, on High to Ballanced settings,

C2Duo Quad Q6600
4 Gigs Patriot DDR2 667mhz
2 Bfgtech 8800Gtx 768mb
Dfi LanParty UT Nf680I LT
Antec TruePower Quattro 850 Watt PSU

Needless to say its overkill, but aside from a software issue it could be that your Memory Latency settings are off, and a heavy load can cause a crash. Or a PSU problem where your video card isnt getting enough power from the supply...

Does it just crash outright? or does it lag out a bit and freeze up, then reboot?

What happens is one instance of EQ2 will freeze up when i go to load up another one, not sure why, i just upgraded ram to 4gigs and still no dice.

Haha. are you sure you aren't minimizing one of them? If EQ2 is minimized, that instance of the game will freeze until maximized again.

Actually now i think I have an idea for you. If i have 1 game in fullscreen and open the other in full screen the one in the back will lock up. Try running them both windowed. The games will run a bit slower, but I can't full screen them both without killing one. just an idea.

Also I found in eq1 and eq2 that partitioning my harddrive with the game loaded separate to each partition helped me dual box with minimal latency in the game. I would have to agree with the others on not using full screen and playing with both windowed.

Dont run both from the same EXE location. Make a duplicate folder of EQ2 and run it from their.
