Well... While I'm comforted somewhat by Smed's remarks, Zapak is the right company to do it if anyone would be interested in doing it. I know Sony is a giant Kiretsu, but Zapak basically owns gaming in India, the largest country per capita pumping out IT tech after IT tech after IT tech...

Just my 2 cents..

No idea who made this up. We are in discussions with various companies in India about bringing our games to this growing market but that's it. We aren't for sale.

Smed

Ok.. nothing to see here. Smed has defused this rumor so those still wearing their tin foil hats can go back to researching the new location of Area 51. XD

The guy that owns Zapak, Mukesh Ambani , is the worlds richest man, worth $65billion.

Less than one month ago they/he hosted India's first online gaming summit. David Christianson met with them, the ex IGE chap, who is now Sony Vice President (of Business Development). So did senior management from Intel and Microsoft.

He (Christianson) was quoted as saying SoEs in development MMORPG, Ramayan 3392 AD, based on Indian mythology, will first be released only in India and will then come to the west if its successful.

The potential market in India/China/Asia opening up over the next few years, is 100 million people. If the worlds richest man is looking at that market (and he is) I can't see him sitting back and being a distributor.

With respect to Smed, if Ambani decides he wants to push a hostile takeover, it will happen.

We are getting many new threads on this same issue, unfortunately with most people believing the rumor before they read Smed's denial.

I've renamed this thread because it is the first and contains Smed's denial. I'm also closing any new threads on this same issue, please use this thread instead.

Thanks

For anyone still even marginally suspicious about this, let me ask you something.

When is the last time Sony, or any other large Japanese technology company, has ever sold one of it's subsidiaries?

The answer, to the best of my knowledge, is never.

They sell televisions, software, etc., not their companies.

I'm not sure why this is so hard to understand.

SOE is owned by Sony, the Japanese electronics and technology giant.

They have more money than this Indian guy.

I'm sure nobody would be stupid enough to turn down an offer they couldn't refuse, but $300 m is chump change in this context.

You just aren't going to see a Japanese company selling a productive business unit for cash.

This does not involve American companies. One can't force a "hostile takeover" of a business unit in this situation.
