While I hate to quote Wikipedia; I believe that in this instance, it has one of the best definitions and descriptions of goodwill available. It claims that: "goodwill as a term was originally used to reflect the fact that an ongoing business had some "intrinsic value" beyond its assets."

I agree with that. Now, dictionary.com states that goodwill is, in terms of commerce: "an intangible, salable asset arising from the reputation of a business and its relations with its customers, distinct from the value of its stock and other tangible assets."

I know what goodwill is, and by saying "lol" I was making a joke about the worth of Sony Online Entertainment above the net book value. Yes, I know that in reality, these are the guys who made Everquest; and that's worth more than a bit.

If you don't want to recognize my joke, that's fine. However, if as soon as Smed starts posting here, you're going to get uptight about every little joke at SOE's expense, perhaps you should rebrand your site.

There is no relation between Smed posting here and me reacting to the stupid reply you made to my comments.

There's a difference between good and bad taste. And, when people start ignoring common sense for the sole purpose of criticism then it goes beyond "flames" and just results in a bunch of "Yo Momma" posts. :P

well not that i take anything that is said by anyone for fact, as my suspicious nature kind of brings about.

but if you are going to "Verify" through means of your own, then just tell everyone you verified it, doesn't that seem useless to you?

now if you had an outside source verify it, then it would be reputable, unless said outside source was another admin or your best friend or whatever.

but other than that, you know i can believe this story to be true, especially with such firm deletion of stories instead of official retractions being placed. but at the same time i also know the internet is stocked full of retards, losers, lame excuses for humans, and less reputable characters who would do anything for something that makes their twisted minds giggle. so once again, I'm left with either toiling over who is more reputable, sleezy companies or retards with no sense of morals. Or i can just chill and not care, which seems to be the best option at this point.

If India takes over SOE you can say goodbye to what this company has meant to MMO players since EQ launched in 1999. The good and bad that is Sony Online Entertainment has provided entertainment, drama, more drama, great games, then ruined those games, then made more great games and then ruined them again.

But despite all those things there was Fan Faire. And there is San Diego, and yeah SOE is a small fry in Sony Entertainment of America's corporation and is an even smaller fry in Sony Corp. Japan, but they are to us American gamers the last western MMORPG company. No cartoony crapola anime shit. I know this is all changing, third parties are becoming SOE's staple it seems. Like Microsoft, if you can't beat em, buy em.

I don't see SOE selling out to India, but man it would be a real crapper for those devs who kissed Smed's ass for these many years, and for those last geeks hoping SWG will revert NGE (SWG is history BTW) and go back to the glory days. I feel like I need to start playing Dungeon Siege and Halo to remember when Americans made video games completely in house and partying at E3 giving out T-shirts and shwag.

The glory is fading for American gaming companies, India is coming, China is coming and Japan already came. The end of western culture and influence is at it's end...sad day indeed, sad.

No idea who made this up. We are in discussions with various companies in India about bringing our games to this growing market but that's it. We aren't for sale.

No where close to the last western MMO company. If SoE were to drop, the genre would just look back, shrug it's shoulders, and keep moving forward.

Think you need to do some background work. Verant made EQ1 and Launched it along with the expansion Kunark, they did make Scars of Velious but SoE bought them out before Verant could launch it. SoE didn't play a major role until they bought out Verant. So, its been pretty much all bad since then on.

Sorry to be blunt SoE, but you value the All-mighty dollar over Customer Satisfaction.

And in ending, why the hell is this thread still going?

I called 310-surf, Bell Canada's Internet Tech support number, and had trouble understanding the operator so i asked them where they were and they replied India.

Sony might not be selling the game to an India company, but it might try to get out of the US and its taxes to maximize profits.

You may want to go edit the wiki entry then.
