EoF Retail Not Available for sale in SF Bay Area
I am astounded.
And no, they didn't run out.
Nobody ordered it.
I spent the better part of the day driving around looking for a store to purchase one copy of the EoF retail version.
I live in the SF Bay Area, in California. This is a Metropolitan Statistical Area with 9 counties and 10 million consumers.
The two main retailers for electronics and game software in this massive urban sprawl are Best Buy and Fry's Electronics.
I went into Fry's this morning expecting to see pyramids of the product stocked on the floor, as I remember from EQ days. They had entire endcaps for Nightfall/Guildwars, for WoW, for other games, but you know what they had for EQ? A couple copies of EQ2 classic for 9.99, and one copy of the DoF expansion.
Best Buy was no different, although Best Buy had two copies of the KoS expansion, and none of DoF.
I got the clerk at Best Buy to look up EverQuest II Echoes of Faydwer in his computer system. For all Bay Area Best Buys, THEY ORDERED A WHOPPING 41 COPIES, IN TOTAL. Yes, that was for 10 superstores. And none of those copies even made it to the South Bay, which is where I live.
Good God, you could hire a half dozen guys as part time telemarketers who would do a better job selling the product to retailers than this while raiding and taking bong hits.
It is very clear to me why this game has never achieved a fraction of the success of WoW.
And that's because SoE's marketing department is either totally incompetent, is following a strat of trying to hide the product from video game buyers, or both.
Can you believe Sigil hired these people to market Vanguard for them? Do they realize what they've done?

That is just FUCKING RIDICULOUS!!!!
Have they jsut given up on themselves even?
How can you ever expect a quality product if that product cant drive itself, and also doesnt have any marketing at the wheel?
I mean jesus, my husband brought home a WoW patch for a jacket the other night. Picked it up in the mall cause he thought it was kitschy (he plays wow too).
He even said the little trendy clothing shops (ie Hot Topic ect...) all had WoW shirts and shit....
(Yeah, I dont go to the mall EVER so i had no idea...)

You either better say something to the powers that be or make a good post on the eq2players forums. Because after all the time and high blood pressure everyone has invested in this game, it would be fucking sad to see THIS as the game's weakness.

Re: EoF Retail Not Available for sale in SF Bay Area
Fry's has a massive video game section in each store.
One of the games they had featured, with a LINE of guys waiting to try it, was "Guitar Hero" for PS2.
Ya, a ton of guys waiting to play air guitar in front of a large screen TV, and not a single copy of EoF in the store, the clerk said they didn't even order it.
What really came through my mind when I saw the line of guys waiting to play the air guitar game was, "I wonder what Gaige's high score is on this."

Re: EoF Retail Not Available for sale in SF Bay Area
Had to check about 8 stores til I found one in the Pacific Northwest.
2 Closest EB Games didnt have it. Target didn't have any EQ2 games. Staples no longer carries games. Local computer store didn't carry games anymore. CompUSA didn't have any in any of their local stores; was web only. Went down the list distance wise, and found an EB Games that actually had a few copies that weren't pre-order.

The guitar shaped control looks pretty cool, has the keys setup as if they were different strings to push down on the bridge (I think that is the name of it *shrugs*).
