Re: Cancelling EQ2Players
Yeah, sounds outrageous they would actually want to try and make money...root of all evil and all that.
Next thing you know, we'll have people selling their toons to make money...like...the previous poster. I mean, to quote...screw these greedy bastards!!

Why do they make us pay to use a site dedicated to the game that we are paying for? Stop being a dick.

At the time of EQ2's release, there were no sites related to most MMOs that were free. So they introduced EQ2Players, which at a time was a huge improvement over what anybody else had. Of course, back then we had sites like Allakhazam, which cost money to use and there was no shortage of people actually using the site, so SOE decided to bank in on that money. Of course, over time more people started playing MMOs and the content you could get for free exponentially increased to what we have today, all while EQ2Players didn't expand at all and stayed costing $, while everything else is free.
It was a smart business decision at the start, but now it's a very poor one because of how the market has expanded.

Re: Cancelling EQ2Players
as I recall back when eq2 came out it was all free the only thing you payed extra for was... more char slots and being able to see who had how much hp / mana who had the highest hit etc etc
looking up players and alts were free untill year or two ago.

You would be wrong. EQ2Players has always cost money. The difference was when it was first released, if you paid it let everybody else see your stuff for free. Since then they have made it so if you pay you get to see everybody's, and if you don't pay you don't get to see very much, at all.

Not all guilds use vent actively. The rest, however, you're mostly right about, the massive amount of anonymization kinda makes looking up characters and stuff not work or suck. The guild website thing could definitely be improved. Leader boards I never cared about anyway, EQ2 isn't exactly a highly competitive game. At least they've seemingly been trying to improve it a bit, huh? Oh, and the item search helps at least to figure out if items are even on your server, stuff that isn't dropping, etc, but it's not like that's TOTALLY necessary, just nice to know.

I'll tell you right now, though, that any guild that doesn't use voice chat software isn't worth being a part of in the first place.

Re: Cancelling EQ2Players
Thanks for your posts - I couldn't agree more. The first problem in my opinion, is that a service that we are paying for is NOT updated in a timely manner, nor is it accurate. I don't know how they are harvesting the data and uploading it to the site - but real-time should not be terribly difficult. If we are paying to access this data - no player should be allowed to go annonymous....this is not health insurance....toons are not protected by HIPAA.
