Default Cancelling EQ2Players

There was a time when an eq2players subscription had some value.

I used to use eq2players to look up items in game. Now, there are several other better sources - eq2liinks, Allakhazam, and the Xanadu web site - that fill the same need, but are more convenient, and you don't have to log in multiple times to use.

I never used the features relating to screenshot uploading, even tinypics is easier to use with fewer restrictions.

I also never used the feature where you can access guild chat from a web brower. Even if I had the need for something like that in the future, I could use Ventrillo to talk to guild mates on any computer I could use to type in guild chat.

And the guild web site feature? A few guilds tried using that when the game was first launched in Nov 04, but quickly abandoned it because the basic features you get with a free website from any ISP are better.

The Leaderboard tool was kind of cool for a while, but in the 3+ years eq2players has been live, the data and character profiles have only ever been updated every 2 to 5 days at best. It is highly unreliable and inaccurate. In addition, anyone whose ever seen the comparable Vanguard players tools knows how inferior the eq2players character and leader board tools are. Hell, with Vanguard, you can take in game screenshots, with pics of your toons in different professional outfits, that upload as snapshots. EQ2players is a tinker toy by comparson to VGplayers.

Mostly, I used eq2players to look up other players, since by its very name, that seemed to be the primary purpose intended. And so for 3 years, I've paid my $2.95 usually 2 accounts at the same time, just so I could research what another players level, guild, character creation date, or other facts were before making replies to them in forums like this one, or to gather evidence on who's been cheating based on leveling history, etc.

Hell, it was only $2.95, an amount I didn't even care about.

But now SOE has given all players the ability to completely anonymize their profile, and I'd say 90 percent or more of the players I want to look up and check out have their profiles anonymous. These are generally the players I most suspect of cheating and other bad behavior.

So now, I can think of ZERO VALUE associated with an eq2players subscription. I'm therefore finally cancelling mine.

I suggest all players join me in protest and vote with your dollars to tell SOE that the complete anonymization of EQ2players is the last straw.

There is no longer any value in an eq2players subscription. I would be a dumbass and a chump to continue paying for a service with zero value. If crap like this was served to me in a restaurant, I'd send it back with a note to the manager that he might want to drug test the chef to see if he was smoking crack.

Actually, I use the guild chat tool now and then - it's nice if your client isn't working for some reason or if you're not at home or your computer dies or you wanna just say "I can't come on tonight" without having to load up the client or god knows what else. Not all guilds use vent actively. The rest, however, you're mostly right about, the massive amount of anonymization kinda makes looking up characters and stuff not work or suck. The guild website thing could definitely be improved. Leader boards I never cared about anyway, EQ2 isn't exactly a highly competitive game. At least they've seemingly been trying to improve it a bit, huh? Oh, and the item search helps at least to figure out if items are even on your server, stuff that isn't dropping, etc, but it's not like that's TOTALLY necessary, just nice to know.

I've always just sent an email for that, or PM'd someone on this site to let them know.

I only use the advanced profile stuff. I only ever use eq2players to look up other players.

Only other thing I like is keeping tabs on my total kills etc.

Sad eh?

True, those work just as well, but it's still another option. The guild chat is much more useful to non-raiders or casual players who just want to chat for a couple mins or tell people something without having to log in as many of those guilds don't have a very active vent, or guild members don't have email addys of their guildmates, or know forum names, etc etc. For a raid guild, or one with a fairly active TS/Vent server, its definitely less useful.

Cancelled mine a good year ago. Like you said the only thing I was using it for was to look up people.

I cancelled mine recently as well, PITA not being able to look up players and for them to be able to be anon in there, wonder who's "brilliant fucking idea" that was.

Pretty pointless now...

Anyone else looking forward to Conan and/or whatever 38 Studios comes out with?

Safe to say that this is one of the top 3 fuck ups in Eq2 history?

I'd agree with that. GG SoE.

Flames now has 0 support from anyone. No TTH, no Zam (although I'm not sure how much there was), no SOE, no one.

The first 38 Studios game is like 3+ years away.

1. Assuming that processor speeds would be 10Ghz by now, instead of going multi-core.
2. Brain-dead skeleton system that has handcuffed is into like 5 total armor models since launch.
3. Thinking it's still ok not to test shit in 2008, like this was 1999 or something.

So no, not #3. Sorry!
