what class do you think is most essential in a raid

this is a poll i made just out of curiosity, the question is this: what 1 class would you always want to have at least 1 of in your raid force, assuming the following:

1. MT and MA positions are taken

2. equally geared/skilled

3. class is being played to its full potential

please also post to mention any AA setup that would be essential to you choosing whatever class you picked (e.g. time compression for an illus or something)

also remember that this is in regards to the raid as a whole, not for your particular class.

Can anyone think of a more useless question regarding raiding? (Question must contain both vowels and consonants to be elligible.) Not to be completely bitchy, but I really can't imagine you do any sort of raiding if you'd ask something like this. The whole point of raiding is that it doesn't hinge on having any one class.

The strength of a raid force and the pleasure of raiding comes from the interaction of classes within and between groups. If it ever comes down to just one class, raiding in EQ2 will be dead past hope of resurrection.

Unless you have some specific context in mind, more constructive questions (though these are amply answered elsewhere) would be things like:

1. What one class do you find completely pointless to take on raids and why?
2. What one class is essential to a mage/scout/MT/hybrid group?
3. What class are you and what one other class do you find the most complementary to doing your job on a raid?
4. What one class has the most versatility on raids?
5. What one class would you consider essential on the So-and-so encounter?

If you do have a specific context, please elaborate. As is, this question is incredibly naive and overly broad at best and I predict this thread will be derailed in approximately 1.2 pages.

obviously one class isnt going to make or break a raid, the question is which one would you always like to have one of. for example, having a brigand for dispatch isnt essential, but it helps alot. bards arent required, but they make stuff a shitload easier. and no i dont raid regularly, hence why i posted this question and why i didn't vote in the poll.

p.s. here's your more useless question: what is more beneficial to the MT group, a ranger or a wizard?

obviously no one class is going to be good in every situation on every encounter, but surely theres a class you can think of that makes things so much easier or smoother that you'd love to have one with you.

Since you said MA is taken... I went with Troub instead of Paladin.

While having 2 Paladins in the raid isn't a bad thing, its not necessary. Having a Troub just makes life a lot easier.

And the reason I skipped all the healers because without healers you don't raid.

Meaning which would I, playing my main, like to have for my main's benefit? Because that's a much better question (and pretty similar to #3 on my list).

However, I can't help but take it that you are asking this from the point of view of the person setting up the raid and want to know which one class is extra special. Problem is, most classes offer enough benefits that a smart raid leader wouldn't want to do without at least one of each of them. Picking a specific one without a specific context to go with it would show that leader for a fool.

So unless you're fishing for fools, your actual question is as nonsensical as "MT group: ranger vs. wizard?" (Very cute, btw.) The latter has an easy answer, though: wizard, all the way.
