Default What would encourage you to play on the Test Server full time? (Rothgar)

This thread was spawned on official boards by Rothgar. I think that it`s entirely possible for us to discuss it, compose our ideas in one post and send it to dev. team. Yes i still hope they can hear voice of reason.

This is copy/paste of my post on official boards, any comments/additions are welcome. And Please lets keep it constructive.

We need separate test-server that is treated as QA/BETA environment, without attempts to turn it into live community. Recruit dedicated players who will test things there. With focus tests of content and mechanics, with developers interaction and all stuff that happens in beta.
You made some new crafting recipes? Start Crafting Focus test, where people can create crafter character of appropriate lvl with all factions and flags to actually test what`s needed
You added new raid-zone? Let raiding-guild /testcopy their character, or let them create characters of specific class/lvl and so on (with flags, and gear)
This list goes on and on.
To encourage actual testing add free subscription for active testers (this way it may work). If someone proved in actual focus test that they are testing things and writing feedback, they deserve something for their time. (and because you can`t just pay everybody, free subscription is a way to go)

And there is actually one more point: Feedback should receive responses. Many people who were beta-testing expansion packs saw their feedback as unnoticed. Such things will never encourage anyone to test something.

I do honestly think that its the only way to make test-server actually work the way it should.

First of all, like you said. Feedback should elicit responses.
Secondly, ideas should be run by this guild. Scripts, ideas, etc. They'll let the dev know if its dumb.
Dev - "We're gonna have half your raid have to be sitting in order to make the fight progress, but if any AEs hit them, you wipe." "
    Guild - Dumb!"
    Dev - "Ok"

In my view there's only one way to properly run a "test" server:

    * The server should only be up for significant Game Updates or content patches, but it should receive the updates well in advance of the go-live in order to be tested thoroughly.

    * The server should allow unlimited /testcopy at any time when the server is up

    * Patch notes for the server (well for all servers but let's start with this one) should be as detailed as possible. Nothing should be left out. Details on what should be tested should be written akin to the leaked Trak stat (not that they have to give the public such intricate encounter details, just in the way it is written). This includes stuff like engine optimizations to look for crashes, etc.

    * In between when the server goes down and comes back up again, it should be wiped.

    * Dev/GM interaction should be greatly increased on this server when testing is going on. Feedback should be able to be easily given on quest steps, etc (generic /feedbacking doesn't count).

I know this is weird, but in my opinion you have to do everything within your power to PREVENT a community from forming on Test. Letting this happen dilutes the testing process and propagates the idea that it is OK to have customers pay you to test their game. While you are still basically doing this on my version of the test server, its much more get-in-test-shit-get-out than forming up a community that will become complacent and then relish their role as the "underdog" server with the worst economy, low population, etc.

We STILL don't care for the test server being a permanent home. This question misses the whole point.

    Exactly.
"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself."

This thread was named this way to make reference to thread on official boards. I do agree that test-server should be TEST-server, and by no means "permanent" home.
Idea is to compile our view of "how test-server should work" and post it / send it to developers team.
Yes I`m crazy and I think they can hear reasonable arguments.

Even though I no longer Play, I agree whole heartedly with this.

Wipe after every LU, and no buff bot. Go in raw, and also, without strats. Also, sign the guild to an NDA. Its easy to make this good again.
