Default Re: Top Secret for Alchemists Only: How to get rich this week

BTW for those of you with plat signs in your eyes:

It's probably too late to start doing this now, if your intent is just to make fat plat. There are a ton of people just about to hit 300 transmuting, which is where you need to be to make the interim items (powders and fragments) used by the tradeskill classes to make items.

It doesn't make sense to level a transmuter at this time, IMO, unless you also have at least two of the classes that can make the best adornments. The luckiest tradeskill classes, those with the most desired items, are armorers and tailors. Alchemists, and to a lesser extent woodworkers, jewelers and carpenters, can also make at least a few nice items that will sell in quantity.

The TS classes that have been totally screwed in EoF are provisioners, sages, and weaponsmiths. Sages get two whole recipes, neither of which is noteworthy or could sell in volume. Provs get one item, a +14 str wrist adornment, that sells somewhat, but the majority of players purchase sta, int or wis for that slot instead, which are made by other classes. Weaponsmiths get a lot of recipes, just like they did before, but all of them are pretty much crap compared to the weapon adornments that Transmuters can make using the Enigma of the Transmuter recipes. Some of the Transmuter recipes own, the weaponsmith ones are all +12 to a damage type, and are "normalized" based on weapon delay. So on a fast weapon, the damage from weaponsmith adornments will only be 1 or 2 pts higher per hit than normal. The Transmuter weapon adornments are all procs, and are set to proc for the stated amount and effect regardless of delay.

What I'm saying is, if you lucked out like me and have 5 level 70 crafters that were collecting dust because it wasn't worth using them anymore, EoF was made for you, because you can sell the best of all adornments on the broker and make bank.

If you don't have one of the "lucky" TS class, all you can do with a transmuter really is try and sell powders and fragments to the lucky classes, since it isn't worth making crappy adornments that won't sell on your own class. But that's not worth it either, because people who purchase powders and fragments on the market can't possibly compete with people like me who have no additional markup in powders and fragments because we can make our own.

The weapon adornments made by Transmuters can't be sold in quantity profitably, since the market is flooded with them at cost or below. The reason there are a ton of T7 weapon adornments on the broker for 1p is that transmuters need to use the common ones to level up from 300 to 325 - they are not profitable to put on the broker for 1p, but you can get more that way than by vendoring them. The really nice T7 fabled/legendary transmuter weapon adornments are too expensive to put on the broker, you can really only custom make those on a per request basis.

So the bottom line is that there is no big profit potential in transmuting by itself - only in transmuting *combined* with one or more of the "lucky" tradeskill classes. If you just level a transmuter now and don't have a few of the lucky tradeskill classes already to make the adornments that will sell in large numbers, you will find yourself spending a fortune to level without any short term hope of recovering that investment. You will go bankrupt fast.

The past week or so has been money making for anything having to do with transmuting. I've dug out 50+ AD1's I've had laying around forever. I'm far FAR from a crafter or frequent seller and I made 10p in one day over the weekend. I did that undercutting everyone by at least 10-20% and it was still like 1000% profit over what the merchant would've given me

I've been reminded that Transmuters aren't the only thing sucking goods out of the economy. Anyone know if you can give spells as tribute to your diety?

I think some people have held off from buying adornments, or starting transmuting, thinking that prices were going to drop. Just the opposite is happening - demand is increasing, and supplies on the market are shrinking and becoming more competitive, meaning higher prices.

I won't pay more than 25 g for an adept 1 to transmute lol. I also won't charge more than 3 p to sell a treasured adornment. So if prices go any higher, I'll just stop making adornments, I'm not going to lose money by continuing to make them at a loss, nor do I want people acting like I'm trying to rip them off by gouging.

I always go into a new market like this with an idea of supplying at a fair price, and never price based on what the market will bear. When I came on to the market, a few people were selling treasured T7 adornments for as high as 10 p each, I quickly brought the price down to 3p. But prices for everything right now are getting stupid, and they are going up instead of coming down.

Spells cannot be given as offerings. I tried that today when clearing out the bank to make room for loams.

I'm at 175 transmuting. Going slow but i'm a 70 Tailor so i have some nice things I can make. The reason i'm doing it is to have a use for the loads of T5, T6 and extra T7 fableds and legendary items rotting in my bank. I could never bring myself to sell them and now they have a potentially good use. I think i've spent about 20 plat to level up so far. I'm cheap and won't buy adepts over 12 gold.

The undercutters have leveled up and entered the market, so I'm getting out of it.

I can't stand it when I have large quanitities of product on the market and people start undercutting my prices by between one copper and one gold, thinking they are slick and that will get them sales.

But I always realize that multiple undercutters are the sign that the market has matured and is no longer profitable. Soon, these people will be fighting the losing game of cutting their own prices down to cost and below. So I've begun discounting in 25 g increments, and will continue lowering my prices by that amount each day until I sell my remaining inventory.

I've made enough plat to keep my alts in fabled for the next two expansions at least, and have a great skill I can use everytime I upgrade an item, and to help my guildmates.

I'm an adventurer again, and am looking forward to doing all the things I haven't had time to do since the expansion started.

I'm not in it for the phat plat, I agree with you - a lot up there already. I'm doing it for myself and to help my guild. I think i'm the only 70 tailor my guild has and seeing that tailors have a lot of useful adornments, it will benefit us as a whole. It just sucks that it's costing me all my plat to get there. I do have a couple of friends (like 3) that send me stuff they get from their alts to help.

I should just have my alt play the lotto in hopes of a free payoff lol.

Treasured adornment prices on my server have dropped from 3p to only 2 p 40 g now! Get them while you can, I'm out of the market once I sell out.

I made about 600 p profit after recovering the 225 p I spent leveling. That will last me a long time, and now I can start playing the game again.
