Default Altaholic seeks help!

I am a self-admitted altaholic but I have decided to settle down on one toon for the long haul. My goal is to eventually do some hardcore raiding. I am looking for some opinions on which class best fits what I am looking for:

(1) I would like to be able to compete on the dps parse in raids.
(2) I would like to be a class that isn't overplayed and won't have too much of a hard time finding a raiding guild.
(3) I would like to be at least a decent soloer. I am not asking to be able to solo nameds with the greatest of ease or anything like that, but being able to get through solo content for questing purposes without much trouble would be nice.

I have been playing for two years now and have had multiple toons but only a few higher levels and I tend to get bored. Any ideas??? Thank you in advance.

I would say illusionist - they can crank out the dps - are always wanted in raid guilds and they can solo really well.

Yeah. Probably a good option.

I was going to say a troub, but we don't solo for shit. And we don't exactly compete for the top of the dps charts. /cry

A good troub can parse ~3.5k in the mage group. But yeah - bards are definately not the best if you want a good soloer.

halfling troubs get at least a -1k dps hit due to getting punted all the time like gnomes.

Brigs are good soloers and do provide good raid utility - most raid guilds have at least 1 if not 2. Their dps depends on the con of the mob. Their hit rate suffers on orange mobs - as I'm sure you've seen plenty of bitching from the melee classes (thanks for the nerf btw). They don't come close to assasin dps, but they can put up good numbers. I think an illus should be able to do more dps than a brig, but that really depends a lot on group set-up and the skill of the player. Brigands are a lot of fun to play according to my friends who have rolled them. Those are two solid choices. Some people excel more at casters and some melee. Maybe check them both out and see which one you enjoy playing more.
