Gnobrin bans people in the official forums for unwritten forum rules

Being banned for trolling on the thread, from what I've seen, has been questionable.....fanbois baiting the emo posters. Emo's banned &/or posts removed. I understand keeping civil....but trolling is too broad a reason....hmmm...I suppose you could recommend me for trolling you...

Trolling is a term I generally prefer to stay away from since as you mentioned, it is one of those things that causes mixed results. The term has a very negative stigma to it and although it is defined in the forum rules, I generally prefer leveraging the rules about personal attacks, insults, and namecalling for moderating.

What I think you are referring to are some of the generic ban messages, and those are largely automatic messages clipped from the forum rules. When a ban is initiated, we have to select a reason for the ban and while "Other" can be chosen and text entered, it is usually just easier to select the pre-made ones (the "trolling" text being one of them).

People that are banned are welcome to discuss it with us upon their return (assuming it is a temporary ban) if they are confused, but as I mentioned previously, a ban is rarely done without any prior contact from a moderator letting them know we are serious about the forum rules.

There isn't really an easy way to moderate the forums without someone being upset. We can't put moderation up for a vote, nor can we openly debate everything we moderate. We're left with what we have now with the moderators largely appearing to be the bad guys in situations like this because of the conspiracy theorists. *shrug*

Thanks Grimwell, but I'm quite happy making my home here rather than that empty husk of a forum, even if you offered to remove my ban I'd have to pass. The official forums once had a purpose, whether it be for entertainment or just getting information about the game. Sadly enough that forum serves for neither of those now.

I'm actually envious of your job, ban who ever breaks the rules and just relax all day and watch while the 500 people who actually view that website post mindless dribble. What a job that really is...

You know, I wanted to reply to Grimwell, and then I realized, what's the point? The only difference between posting it here and posting on the official forums is that I wouldn't get banned for it here... Grimwell, Gnobrin, whoever from SOE still is going to play ostrich, sticking their head in the sand and pretending that unpleasant facts aren't intruding upon their crack-induced forum fantasies that everyone either sucks SOE cock or else intentionally and purposefully breaks forum rules. Go on, keep acting like mods haven't deleted posts, locked threads, and banned users for doing nothing more than what's been pointed out previously.
