It's always nice to see the "bug guy" posting, even if in an unofficial capacity.
Regarding Gnorbrin... Despite the many posts made at his expense (my own inclided), I don't think anyone here really believes he's
truly evil. He just seems to be over zealous... a tad. I have never been warned, I have never been banned and in general I try my best to "keep the peace" where possible, so my opinion is generated strictly on what I've observed, not personal experience. But when I look at the "effect" these bans/locks are having on the community (regardless of the intent or justification), I can't help but feel that _everyone_ is being driven away.
I realize you came to the thread to address specific issues, so I'll be brief. Consider that the SOE forums are supposed to be here for the community (which includes us). There's a diverse player base, lots of opinions, lots of ego's and for the most part there used to be a fairly wide "grey" area where people could interact... sometimes it was good, sometimes it got ugly but the hammer was only dropped when things looked like they were going to go nuclear. Nowadays, it seems like there is no grey area. No grey area means that meaningful discussion will not take place unless everyone is of like mind (in which case there's not much to discuss).
"I like this!"
"So do I!"
The End!
*shrugs* I'm sure a lot of the people who got banned deserved it. If they poked and prodded a mod, then that's their fault but I can point to more than few threads that were locked (and cite a few players in the past who were banned) for "almost" going overboard. That can be frustrating. "Almost" doing something wrong isn't doing something wrong
At this point... it's almost moot. I fear that the official forums have become and will probably remain a ghost town. Many of the regular contributors are here now and I can't honestly see why they'd go back. But that's my opinion and I'm nobody so take it for what it's worth.
