Normally I wouldn't make a post like this but have had quite a few people ask me about this and would like to share it with everyone interested. I am by no means a Linux guru but been using it the last year and consider myself to be about average. This walk through will just consist of links to sites with howto's that I used to get EQ2 running.
Firstly I'm using Ubuntu 7.10 32-bit on a C2D E6600, 2gigs of ram, GeForce 8800GTS and SB X-FI. You'll need to follow the steps listed here getting newest drivers and version of wine then configuring it to work with eq2:
1.
ENVY(downloads latest video drivers)
2.
OSS V4 for those using SB X-FI Cards
Configuring OSS to work
3.
Add WINE Repository and install it
4.
Follow the steps listed here including the registry changes
5. You can run EQ2 from the Windows NTFS partition its currently installed on if you're dual booting. The only way I've gotten it to work is to run it through WINEFile and navigate to my windows partition. When you run it the first time the Launchpad will download some files locally but after that it'll detect everything from the directory you ran it from.
Thats all I needed to do to get it to work with the latest version of WINE. There are a few graphical issues but it runs at least as fast as it did in windows while running other applications and compiz fusion. Only crash bug I've discovered after using it a few days is whenever I try to resize the window. I just keep it in windowed mode and never change the size and it runs stable for the entire day.
For those that need to run Ventrilo for raids you can get it to work using this
guide.
