Something changed recently with the way some European banks, particularly UK ones anyway, authorise certain transactions, particularly online, international and recurring transactions (I think).
Basically they've become a lot more tight. I now can't order pizza from Domino's online. Doesn't matter if I've just been paid and have a sizeable amount of cash in my account, I can't order pizza online.. It just simply will not authorise it. I have to call them up and they take the payment manually, then it works.
I can't speak for US banks, I have nfc whether there's something similar going on over there. I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same though.
Personally though I'll take the minor annoyance over the fraud epidemic of a couple of years ago.
