Re: SOE does not want raiders.
A few things killed EQ2 for me.
1. Itemization - this has been stated already so I wont rehash most of it. I will add that sure, things can fall through the cracks occasionally, but SOE never seems to learn from their mistakes. They made itemization mistakes way back in T5, so you would think DoF would be better right? Wrong. Same scenario with T6 - T8. Is anybody paying fucking attention in the company? Anyone?
2. Mechanics - This game has more revamps to its combat mechanics than I care for. Cant they get it right and why does no one in the company seem capable of foresight? Sure exploits pop up in various combat systems, but is this current one going to cut it? Gear with more stats that dont help my max level toon because of some lame soft cap. Resistances for mobs that ignore them completely and if you play PvP, you cant land but 2 of 10 spells as a caster. Its gotten to the point where its just stupid, but in their usual arrogant fashion SOE wont admit it.
3 Lack of direction - Does anyone feel like no one is at the steering wheel driving this game. It seems like all the devs just do their own thing seperate from all others and merge their updates together. This started as a PvE game, then they added half-assed PvP and nerfed the game as a result of it (and the said they wouldnt). Then they started dumbing the game down trying to make it more like WoW until finally the launched the nail in the coffin expansion known as RoK. It was at that point I decided just to go play the game that sony keeps trying to rip off. They have better itemization and raid content.
4 Raiding - Again, this has been stated but this was what ultimately killed it for me. I actually enjoyed EoF. That was the right direction for SOE to head with the game IMO. RoK killed my desire to play EQ2. Raiding became the OPPOSITE of fun. It was a chore. Mobs began to have stupid effects. So its cheesing and lame for a raid full of bards/chanters to power drain, stun, and stifle a mob? So why does sony think that is a viable tactic to have a mob do to a raid?
Ultimately, SOE may consider themselves the industry leaders but they have had their asses handed to them in a major way by Blizzard. As long as they try to mimic WoW they will only further push more players out the door, especially the raiders. That may be their ultimate plan. We can only hope they get their shit together with EQ3 (if there is one). But their track record goes against that.

Mine aren't. Anyone who has problems with Vista has a user input error attached to their keyboard.

Honestly I gotta say I agree with what ya say. Well put my friend. And if SOE really DOES give a shit about the higher end content. They sure got a odd way to show it.

Why do people keep misintepreting this statistic? It applies to the population of avatar killing guilds. Although it is most likely more than this paltry amount, it certainly isn't the 40%+ that people are using. This 40%+ is something that might apply to raiders as a whole (casual or otherwise) either killing avatars or clearing FTH.
Either way, I think it isn't indicative of any bias towards a specific population of players (which is dumb in any business sense), but points to a lack of communication amongst developers. The dreaded "silo effect"...

Re: SOE does not want raiders.
forgot to add:
5 Class balance - For fucks sake how long can certain classes remain completely inferior to their counterparts (looking at you Coercers/Zerkers/Bruisers). But then again, they are only out of whack raiding so that fits sonys plans, I guess. Class issues should take precedence over some of the more frivilous shit that they fix, IMO.

Re: SOE does not want raiders.
It's the "American Dream" phenomenon. Even though less that 1% of EQ2 players is going to touch the high end raiding content, everyone thinks they're going to make it someday, and when they do they want it to be freakin awesome.

I've been saying this for ages, it never seems like anyone there has the big picture in mind and thats WHY itemization is so fucked, thats why class balance is screwed. Everyone just does there own thing with no overall vision or direction.

God, you're such a tool. No one is denying this, FFS. But we're seeing one entire portion of the game being actively choked to death by bad design. Our voices might not be "most critical," but we deserve at least equal treatment by your very own standards. We're not being provided with entertainment, we're being provided with kick after kick in the ass.

So casual guilds never go and raid that content the next tier for the experience?
