Community Summits... now a joke...

From what I can tell Influencers aren't there to improve the game, just the image.

I am not bashing NGD people, and I believe I've made peace with them long ago. I would like to say that I also like and respect Coyote.

But in reviewing Brasse's fan site article and the pictures she posted, I have one question.

How many people that attended the Summit last week that she posted about are NOT NGD regulars, either present or at least in the past?

It appears to me that the majority of those involved with EQ2 (if not all) who attended the Summit last week are NGD regulars.

Do Brenlo and Grimwell really believe these people represent the broad cross section of players in EQ2, and that they will get anything more than homogenous, similar feedback out of such a narrow slice of the player base?

AS I understand it the summit 'influencers' are not supposed to be the same each year. Two guys from our site went last year, so this year they got new people. It would seem to me that they are hearing MORE of a slice of the playerbase by rotating people in and out rather than a smaller sub section.

I honestly don't think the reason we didn't get invited this year is not because the fact we have bitched about SOE/EQ2 during our last few podcasts. I think it is because they are trying to get a wider selection of the community in there. I also think this year was not as "EQ2" as past summits.

From what I heard about last year's with the SWG guys lay'ing into Smed on multiple occasions I don't think for a minute they are pulling people in specifically that they feel will throw them softball questions.

They make the game and we are just fansites. Thats just the way it works. I welcome any type of relationship with the devs (and I think you had a point about losing the ability to have that with this site) but in the end they don't owe us anything.

Grimwell, as one of his first acts of being Community Manager, removed me from the Summit program because I refused to play nice and kiss Coyote and Domino's asses when they would continually dismiss LFG's commentary and bash raiders.

Gaige, while I agree with the general sentiment of your post, I have to disagree with your reasoning as to why you are removed. You are an arrogant, uncouth, tactless, hateful person who is utterly incapable of giving criticism without needless insults or of acknowledging the legitimacy of any opinion besides his own. The only reason you are well known in the community is because you are such an unremitting loudmouth. The fact is you should never have been given any special consideration in the first place as you provide nothing uniquely useful to the devs.

He's also one of the best and most knowledgeable players EQ2 has. All his arrogance, while merited, I often saw it as tongue in cheek.

I don't disagree with you at all about that, and also agree with you about the fact that not the same people got invited everytime.

My comments involved the most recent Summit only. It appears to me that they are now seeking advice and counsel only from players who support them in a positive, public manner, and from those players, most or perhaps even all are regular NGD posters on the Official Forums. Unless I missed something in Brasse's article, that alone should be setting off the fire alarms.

Gaige was recruited to the Summit program based on his posts on the official forums concerning the Monk class specifically and brawlers in general. Nobody can deny that during the time he posted there, he was one of the most knowledgeable players in EQ2 about that subclass, class, archetype, and related issues involving game mechanics.

In other words, the only people invited to the summits now are people who are well known for blowing sunshine up Suck Our Epeen's ass. Which supports this thread's title.
