What I don't get is how he plans to use the PS3 to topple WoW, when the life cycle of a console is maybe 2 years before the next generation comes along and totally destroys anything previous. In another year we will be looking at a PS4 that obliterates a PS3. Plus, as someone commented, the console market is further watered down by the variety of options out there, so unless it goes cross platform it willbe hard to garner serious numbers. And then factor in how only some console owners will be interested in an MMO.

I dunno, this doesn't seem like it will work to me.

September '95, PS1
October '00, PS2
November '06, PS3

Uhm, that's a 5 year window for consoles. The PS4 isn't going to come out until September '11 at the earliest, and probably not till '12 in the states(which is the release dates listed for). Which means, *gasp*, looks like consoles last a lot more than 2 years!

And the Japanese are still making games for it while they shift to the 360 since Sony doesn't want 2D games on their shiny box.

Heh, well OK, mabe a little research woulda been wise on my part. But still, a console releases and it seems like within a year or two the buzz and popular market has kinda moved on to something else. Just seems like tying development to a specific console platform in a fickle market is potentially limiting the playerbase an awful lot.

It's also a lot easier to program for, and will allow for quicker development time since you only have 1 platform to worry about. Everybody can run your game who has the system, rather than only like 5% of people who have a PC, or whatever.

Installed Base makes consoles better than PCs for that reason. Now is the time to start developing a MMO for the PS4 to have it ready for launch.

I cant even imagine trying to play a MMORPG on a console. Did EQOA have a keyboard attachment? In any case I buy my hardware based on what games I want to play not the other way around.

Games designed around a controller can and do work. See FFXI, it's horrible on a keyboard, but it's pretty good with a controller. That's the key thing, design it around the controller, not port it to the controller and everything works out.

You have to get one of those goofy PS2 keyboards that plugs into one of those proprietary, what do you call them, USB ports on the front of the console.
