Why doesn't SOE endorse eq2i?

I suppose I can't speak for everyone, but I pretty much feel that the best 2 resources for valuable EQ2 information are this site and Main Page - EQ2i.

I can understand that they're never gonna put flames in any links, but I was looking at their new "Fan Resource Center", and they have 4 "useful" links there. Some db site I've never heard of (that's ugly as hell), TTH and Allakhazam (which have guides that help you find your spirit shard), and some other news site I've never heard of.

There is a link to eq2i in the eq2players link section, but that's it. IMO, it should be the first "useful" they have on that fan resource page (which is a waste of bandwidth and resources itself, if anyone's asking :P).

EQ2i is going to be the #1 wiki with or without SoE.

That said, I can't say enough good things about EQ2i. During the epic discovery rush they made sure to cite Flames when it was applicable, something they didn't have to do.

i imagine it's probably up to eq2i (which is really wikia now right) to contact soe about that kinda thing? not the reverse?

It shouldn't be. They're generally recognised as the premier source. If people ask about something in level chat, chances are some smartass will write Main Page - EQ2i as a reply. Neither 'Zam or TTH get that, and I bet they didn't have to write to Sony for inclusion on that list.

I use lootdb, EQ2i and EQ2Flames, and I'd wager they're some of the better sites for this game, yet SOE's too busy buffing party line fansite wang to care.

fortunately, if you use profit ui, you get links to eq2i (wiki) for quests & items directly

This is a really good freaking question... Someone should post this question on the SOE forums and see if it gets deleted.

I think fan sites should avoid official recognition from the corporation. An informal relationship... perhaps. A link on fan resources is nice but anything beyond that allows SOE to impose restrictions and/or rules of conduct if that web/fan site wants to maintain the relationship.

That is essentially what happened to eq2flames. SOE did something wrong, someone on flames "exposed" them, SOE felt wronged (no matter how wrong they themselves might have been) and severed the relationship. More strife than it's really worth, IMO.
