Market speculation is when you believe the price of an item on the market will be worth more money in the future, so you buy it up now and sell later when it is worth more. The key point is that you are playing the market. You horde goods that you consider undervalued, and then you resell them to other players at a higher value. Note the buying and selling from other players that is involved.

This is not what Ixnay did. Ixnay did not horde a bunch of items from the broker, and then sell them later to the players at a higher value to make his platinum.

In fact, SOE said that the items were going to be nerfed. Ixnay created additional adornments, and adorned items with them for the sole purpose of taking advantage of a refund that was intended for players who had their items nerfed. It was intended to be a refund, not a free plat give away.

it's simply the fact that he's portrayed himself as anti everything that could even be thought of as an exploit. the boxes thing has been beaten to death, but there it is. not using even one strong box for inventory because it's an "exploit". then he makes an analogy to vegetarianism, and says that he's very serious about not using any exploits, ever.

this is more than just a market risk. he adorned things because he had nothing to lose. even if the money returned from the items adorned was 5gp each, he was getting money for adorning things he WAS NOT using. he had the materials to make the stuff and adorned his gear because he would be getting it bounced back to his inventory and money returned for it. he cheated the system, because he can now sell those adornments, and he got money for adorning them to things he would never have adorned them to otherwise. how is that not cheating? hm, free money and a product to put on the market when it comes back to you...

i appreciate everyone's efforts here to defend him, but i really want his response, not yours.

The moral absolutism is the flaw in his reasoning and many others (LFG included). It is all well and good to declare there are clear cut rights and wrongs but life simply doesn't work that way. Take that guild name.

Whether you have permission from on high or not, it is still a violation of the naming policy. The very same sense of self-rightous moral certainty should be preventing him from associating with that guild.

Seriously, you don't see the flaw in saying LFG stole items from other players? You don't see the problem of the over-use of the term exploit? You seriously believe that EQ2 is more than a game as Dehah does? That somehow the way we play a video game has broader implications into our real lives?

We are devaluing the power of the word exploit.

With the exception of the HQ item, I am reluctant to call anything he listed an exploit. To say that any action that goes against the original intent of the designers is an exploit calls into question every game decsion each of us has ever made.

By this logic, you are cheating to solo a heroic mob as they are intended to be fought by groups. If you intentionally kill yourself to travel, you are cheating as it was clearly stated death is not supposed to be used for travel. I am cheating every time I fly by heal someone having trouble with a mob.

I don't have an issue if people want to wag their fingers and tsk tsk at someone being an opportunist. All things being equal, we all do it within the bounds of the EULA. I do take issue with calling these people exploiters or cheaters.
