Since this has become very interesting, I have some questions for LFG or anyone who can answer them:

Quote:
The risk was getting only a return of fuel cost, and ending up with highly nerfed, undesireable, and unsellable product.
Undesireable? Unsellable? From reading these many pages I was under the understanding that these particular adornments were the highest possible adornment available for the given stats/slots, and after the "nerf" still are. So.....how are they undesireable/unsellable? Are you really saying that you thought they'd be nerfed to lower stats than their lower level versions?

From what I understand these items weren't nerfed so that any NEW ones were nerfed and original were left untouched, making the new ones undesireable. Is my understanding flawed?

The personal crusade against refusing to be guilded with tradeskill botters is yours, and yours alone. I won't and never have macroed myself, because that is a violation of my personal ethics and beliefs.
Quote:
But regarding what others do, I follow a "don't ask, don't tell" policy. I cannot possibly enforce my beliefs against tradeskill botting against other people.
So you attacked this guy and his guildy (and I understand, I would have taken his posts as a personal attack too) by calling into HIS morals by bringing up something you have no proof of (no proof meaning you do not know whether he knew this person was a botter or not) but then freely admit to doing so yourself? How does that work?

Quote:
But I had nothing to lose by doing what I did, and just knew that my leftover adornments would have lower HP and stats the next morning than they did the night before. They would be worth less than they were now, and if I didn't get rid of my remaining inventory in powder and fragments, I would lose money.

In real life, I can and often do legally act on publicly disclosed information as quickly as possible to maximize my wealth.
So....how do you call something like carrying boxes an exploit? For that matter, most of the "exploits" are publically discussed on message boards outside of the SoE forums which I know many of you read. So, if a person posts something like the "death coordination" tactic I keep reading and others begin using it, is that tit for tat? Does that fall within your definition of acceptable behavior?

And don't take this as a personal attack. I don't know you. I enjoy debate and I am curious about these things. But at the same time, I find it incomprehensible that you can take the moral stances on some subjects you have, publically announcing what you consider exploiting, then say this is not. Enlighten me.

PS: Unlike some, I don't think exploit = cheat. Exploit means just that, you exploit something....you take advantage of it. Whether or not it is cheating depends on your personal moral view of it, which is obviously not really objective. However, your argument that this is NOT cheating is actually pretty ignorant IMO.
Tradeskill botting is cheating? Why? Because it uses information publicly accessible and uses in game mechanics to make something much easier than it normally would be? Like making lots of extra tradeskill items and equiping them to make money a lot easier than it normally would be? At the least you knew you were getting back the item PLUS fuel cost AND could resell it. Don't get me wrong, I blame SOE for the way this occurred. Would have been much better to simply do the nerf and the refund at the same time, no advanced warning. But then, SoE isn't exactly stuffed full of intellectual giants.

But again, how are all these other things exploits and not this? Again, not a personal attack, I just still fail (personally) to understand the line drawn in the sand.

So having not the rest of the posts, I fail to see the contradiction here. He says he had nothing to lose. Then states if he did nothing he would lose everything. So he said the same thing twice, just in a different way. Now if it said nothing to gain we would have a different situation.

imo, this thread would not even have been started if LFG hadn't referred to using bank boxes in inventory as exploiting. I don't think any rational person would argue that EQ2's system of weight management makes any kind of sense, but "calling out" people who use them suggests that there's some viable option. I personally use 4 bank boxes, that harvested stuff holder, and some other bag (can't even remember it's name). With ? stuff, mob drops, quest shit that I don't know if I can delete or not, and backup gear I have very few "extra" spots in my inventory. For me to give up boxes, SoE would need to give people an alternative. I'd be fine with more quested, dropped and crafted bags with lots of slots - even to the point that the really nice ones with tons of slots and weight reduction were ultra expensive, fabled, whatever.

So to tie the two topics being beat to death together, I don't blame LFG for making money from adornments, cause it was possible due to poor implementation by SoE....I also don't blame players who use bank boxes instead of bags in inventory - again, it's due to a poor weight limit mechanic / neccessity to carry around too much shit more than players trying to "get away with something"

I never "called out" anyone who uses bank boxes or said that I considered people who use bank boxes to be exploiters - show me a link and quote if you think I did.

The bottom line is, you'll never find such a link, because I've never stated that anyone else who uses bank boxes is an exploiter.

This whole thing has blown up into an Internet version of the "telephone" game I played as a child. You whisper a word in someone's ear, and by the time it gets to the last person in the circle, the word has changed. Only this time, what I said changed into something completely different - many of you never even read what I wrote, this has now all been passed around as word of mouth and become something entirely different than what I said.

All I ever said was that to me, carrying bank boxes felt like exploiting, therefore as a personal choice decision I elected not to use bank boxes. I also said, MANY MANY fucking times, that basically everyone else I knew used bank boxes, and I was not in fact calling them an exploiter by so using them. Do you think I'd call the 23 other people in my guild exploiters for using bank boxes? Of course not.

EDIT: IN THE FUTURE, THIS REPETITIVE EXPLANATION SHALL BE KNOWN AS "EXPLANATION 208."

I have no desire to get into an inane back and forth of "No it isn't," "Yes it is." "Fu" is accepted as meaning fuck you in today's venacular. After the fact spin is really, really cute but the majority of people who see "fu" are going to assume you mean fuck you. It is sweet that your mind is so uncluttered that it didn't dawn on you the phrase could mean that. As others have stated, the guild used it internally to mean that. You surely were clued in upon joining. Here's a cute little experiement. Type an e-mail to your boss and sign it fu. Let's see what happens.

I, personally, could care less. Call yourselves the shit eaters or ball lickers, that's your business. I've never reported anything other than plat selling spam so I let a lot roll off my back. Since the moment I saw that guild name in a sig, I took it to mean Club Fuck You and wondered how it was allowed to remain. Same with the Misfits Of the Forgotten Order. The point was that when a person, Dehah in this case, sets themselves up as the paragons of righteousness and morality, they should hold themselves to the same standard.

If it were just a game, this thread wouldn't exist and you wouldn't be giving your $0.02 because nobody would give a shit one way or the other.
EQ2 is a hobby. Nothing more. I give a shit because it is one of my sole entertainment vehicles. I put a lot of time in it but if it were to go away tomorrow, I would deal.

This point, which you either don't get or are yanking my chain, is that Dehah (and others) have drawn connections beyond a hobby. They are equating actions within a video game as having far reaching, life implications. That an action within a video game have direct bearing on a person's character and that taking advantage of an in-game opportunity makes someone amoral.

Btw, fu

LFG you should really learn to respond in context. I wasn't asking you to re-explain your logic for calling carrying boxes an exploit. I was asking you to explain why that's an exploit (publicly based info used to maximize one's wealth) when what you did with the adornments is not. Or why the other things I listed in there are exploits and yours wasn't based on being public knowledge. The two issues are linked. Please re-read what I said and not cherry pick one comment that others have asked a million times and assume I'm doing the same, or don't respond at all. It's kinda not worth either of our times otherwise. Thanks
