Re: Burnout - How do you handle it?
My job sometimes wears me so thin that the thought of being in front of a PC makes me want to gouge my eyes out with a spoon. So I either watch CSI reruns, rent a movie, or play some PS3 or 360 game. Some nights I sit in my recliner and drool until it's bed time.

2) EQ2 Hardcore raiders post mandatory raid times and attendance policies on thier web sites, but thats a farse. Because of #1, they only actually raid for HALF that time, the rest of the scheduled raid time, they are off farming spells and coin, and generally doing the chores that eats up the rest of a regular persons play-time.
3) Mid night contested runs dont exist. All the really top tier end game elite dudes only play 3 hours a day, and they will not, by any means, spend 20 hours online watching with a lvl 2 alt for a mob to pop. They are so elite, they just have SOE page them when a mob pops, and if its outside a scheduled raid time, they call the gm/dev in thier guild and have that shit depopped until later when they all get on.

Re: Burnout - How do you handle it?
- FPS games
- Single player games
- Other MMO casually (LOTRO, WoW, DDO)
Edit: Oh ya, and the most important, bitch everytime you have to play eq2. Bitch about the raid content, how fucked the mechanics are, how miserably the itemization is, and much much more. Best way to combat burn out~

Re: Burnout - How do you handle it?
I prefer to just cancel the account entirely upon burnout. Why pay so much if you are just going to log in occasionally and shoot the shit? When you've regained your strength and sanity, reactivate and time how long it lasts. In my experience, and I've had the game since it's release, I have never had an account active longer than 4 months.
Play some FPS's. It's a change of pace and will have you thinking quickly and tactically again. Play CoD4 or GRAW. Don't play CS, it's mindless and stale just like WoW.
Get out of the house, learn an instrument, for fucks sake goto the gym.
I've tried other MMO's to help with burnout, they all seem the same and repetitive. Tried making other toons, the grind back up to 80 doesn't help especially when I have to go through content I'm worn out on.

#2 reason for burnout is when you have to pick between RL.....
#3 reason for burnout is being in a hardcore raiding guild. Mandatory raid attendance, mid night contested run, minimum raid %, plus the stress of raiding can cause some bad burnout as well. IMO if you have no problem with #2, then you shouldn't have to worry about #3, unless you're a weaksauce.
There are several ways of dealing with burnout. One is to take some time off the game....
|
I'd agree with #1 definately being a problem, guild structure and members can definately have an adverse effect on your gaming experience and can make great content feel like shit or shitty content feel great.
#2 Isn't really burnout. If you have greater responsibilities than a video, which everyone does, and those responsibilities make it impossible to do whatever your in game goals are...you quit. Not that you want to or the game is driving you nutts, but just b/c its not feasible.
#3 Most of the pressure from being in a hardcore raiding guild is no longer there really. Persistant instances and lack of contested have made hardcore raiders schedules very very structured which conforms very nicely to people who have very busy schedules.

This is kinda what really burned me out. As a fury at this point there is literally 3 left side pieces thats are raid upgrades and no notable rightside piece upgrades. The raid content was crap and there was better gear from solo/heroic instances dungeons and quest lines.
So I quit and went to do that stuff. Its the most unchallenging and mind numbing crap I could have ever fathomed. I decided the gear wasnt worth the feeling of me just wasting my time and I went back.
