It's spring and folks are putting a hold on their subscriptions. Those of us that are still around might be looking for something else to play in the next few months. They'll nerf down the hard mobs to keep those of us that are still around interested in sticking it out with EQ2 instead of moving on to AoC, WHO, or real life.
Typical on how SOE does things, by making raid encounters difficult enough that only the top 1-2 guilds on each server can get stuff done. After the expansion has been out for 4+ months, they get around to nerfing (and/or fixing the bugs) and things suddenly get easier for the guilds that have been constantly running into a brick wall.
When a new expansion comes out, those same thing happens all over again. Only this time around, I'm not sure if SOE and EQ2 will be able to keep the interest of folks who call themselves "raiders", whether they are high end raiders or raiders that eventually get to the end game content. We do not know when the next EQ2 expansion is due to be out, and if guildies start drifting away, it will be hard to get the right mix of classes to even get anything done.
It's a damn shame that things are turning out the way they are, 'cause I really like what this game has to offer. I like playing with my friends and finally working out an encounter to move on to the next step. I like my raiding toon, as well as my silly little crafter army. What I don't like is the shifty tricks that SOE has been pulling as of late, along with the lag, random bugs, quests that have been broken since December...and the list goes on.
Clean up your act, SOE. Fix the problems, and you just might see people sticking around or (/gasp) coming back.
