I recently started a few new characters and leveled them up in EoF/RoK/Neriak. I think if they had a progression server, it would be desolate. The old world was/is horribly designed compared to the newer content. DoF was a pretty bad expansion also. EoF seemed to have turned things around.
In order to make the old world ok, they would have to revamp it and by revamp I mean make Qeynos/Freeport 1 zone (Maybe even connect them to Antonica/Commonlands. Redesign most zones and all the npcs inside (90% solo content outside dungeons, 90% group content inside dungeons with group instances that have gorowyn-quality loot). Make Rivervale a starting city, make it similar to neriak's set up. Then the old world would be acceptable (although I'd contest that they should merge some of the land together... like put lavastorm on d'lere continent, there is even a freaking door there that lavastorm zoneline could be or attach Zek, EF, and EL or Feerrott and Antonica.... oh and get rid of the door zonelines, DoF, RoK, and EoF's zonelines were better.
I think then I may play in the old world again. But the only time I would use DoF would be to use SS as a point of quick travelling... such a bad expansion, it single-handedly made me quit EQ2. If it wasn't for EoF's success and the prospect of RoK I would still not be playing. Merge it on D'lere too and never mention it as an expansion... burn Maj'dul to the ground. Shimmering Citadel and Poet's Palace get a thumbs up though
