Re: Do you raid in Balanced mode or higher?
Just to let you know, there is a known issue supposedly with nVidia 8800 series cards and EQ2. The problem has to do with how the driver, direct X and the game handle release of textures or something. SOE is blaming nVidia, and nVidia is probably not going to do anything about it to be honest. I don't quite understand the explanation on page 7 though, but worth a look I guess, (if you haven't seen it).
I run on balanced with the rig posted below. I use the nvidia control panel to force AA to 2x and anistrophic filtering to 8x on this game, and I edited the ini file to accomplish this also. At any rate, prior to setting the AA, I would normally get around 6 to 7 fps in raids during fights, which is just wrong. After the change, I get around 15 to 20 fps in fights, which is a dramatic improvement. However, with the rig, I should be getting better. My wifes computer with a much older ATI card, runs the game as good or better than mine...
My system specs:
Vista 64
AMD X2 6000 overclocked to 3.8 zalman 9700 on top
8GB Patriot PC6400
Asus M2N32 SLI
8800 GTX

I hope you built this system yourself or you probably grossly overpaid, but it is similar to a setup I'm doing. Whats your processor?

I wonder what the full effect of Vista's UI's "acceleration" is, especially with dual monitors and double page flipping in windowed-mode (EQ2 engine -> buffer, buffer -> desktop).

Bought it all off of Newegg and built it myself in a Coolermaster Cosmos 1000 (best case I've ever used).
I have one of the newer Wolfdale Core 2 Duo's (E8400) 3.0GHz, OC'ed to 3.4 with a Zalman cooler.

The page flipping Vista feature thing doesn't do anything on the second monitor. It all goes to the primary display. Basically, it won't really have any big noticeable effect on a newer computer with 2 gigs of RAM or more - but it looks pretty damn cool.

Re: Do you raid in Balanced mode or higher?
I raid in balanced at the moment. Hopefully after gu44 I can do higher.
Intel e8400 @ 4ghz
Gskill ddr2 8gb @ 1000mhz
EVGA SSC 8800gt
2x Western digital raptor 150gb HD in raid-0 (64k stripe)
Gigabyte p35-ds3r motherboard.
Windows Vista 64 home premium
My main problem is the memory usage exceeding 2gb and eq2 shutting down...

You can easily hit 4GHZ on air with the new Intel processors. Overclocking is so easy, it is not funny.

A little off topic (sorry Illum), but how is the load times with that SSD? Also, how do you like that processor? I was thinking about getting a QX9650
