This is so fucking ironic.
They go through all the trouble of digging through logs to find what they perceive as perpetrator, but then can't get the amount right...
Way to piss people off.

Re: Plat farmers
I do a lot of farming for loams/collectibles and sell a ton of them so I am quite worried about my account getting randomly stripped for "no reason". SO I asked a GM what they thought about removing money from third party accounts that acquired money from the broker was that: they look at each case and do a lot of investigation. After this, they determine if the third party account was involved in the illegally attained platinum. If they WERE then they are nailed. If they WERE NOT, they are issued a warning and the money acquired removed. It seemed in each case the account is "warned". I think you only get an account flag (ie: you did bad!) if you were part of the money.
So it seems they are really following the money around. I am not too keen on this because I can see a lot of people getting nailed and losing a lot of money. I am going to take most of my items off of the broker for a few weeks. Maybe they'll chilllax and stop trying to find witches.
Overall, I think this is crazy. I can understand going after plat sellers and buyers, but bringing the rest of the player base in is nuts. If SoE was serious they should be able to flag coin as invalid right when they find out about it (do the plat sellers sell it that fast or do something with it? I do not really know). They should also let the players know. For example, if platinum 500-506 has been deemed as "dirty", it'd cannot be used in any sort of transaction. Just a quick example to get my point across. They could do some clever things here.

SOE, while fucking you over, is actually providing some useful control functions for EQ2. First they are making an effort to catch and punish plat farmers and their buyers. Second, they are taking money out of the system, which helps keep the economy pretty stable (this is where you get screwed). Third they are spreading the word that plat farmers and those who buy from them are not to be tolerated, but not only that, anyone who deals with plat farmers or their buyers, knowingly or unknowingly, will get screwed themselves (this is also where you get screwed). While this last function really sucks for you, it will make you, and other people that you talk to about this unfortunate event, think twice before dealing high cost transactions to random people; it will help single out plat buyers, as you will not want to trade with anyone you know or suspect to have purchased plat.
I don't care for SOE, but you have to admit that given the scale of EQ2's transactions, its not feasible to expect SOE to fully investigate beyond a doubt that the item you sold was sold at a reasonable market price and that you had no suspicion that the buyer was reputable or not. A person who knowingly sells an item to a known plat buyer is just as guilty as the plat buyer and the plat farmer. SOE can't reasonably make that distinction whether you did or did not know the origin of the money, so it has to treat you as if you did know.
Personally this doesn't make me mad at SOE, because I understand why they have to do it this way. I'd be more pissed at the douche plat farmer and the lazy-assed plat buyer who ultimately fucked me over.
This is no different than real life, how many laws are out there because some douchebag fucked it up for everyone else?

I can understand not wanting tainted money through the game but what they SHOULD do is give the items that where bought with the dirty plat back to the person because he in no way is at fault for selling these items he farmed.

Re: Plat farmers
This whole scenerio is the reason my account and my husbands was banned, yes banned, after 4 years of loyal playing by the both of us and /reports to whatever plat farmer we saw/found heard from w/e we were banned. and those plat farmers..yes ..they are still running around the eq2 world buying/selling trading plat for RL cash. So now we know Sonys priority with thier loyal players (there is none) they are banned and thier accounts dismissed while the plat farmers have free riegn in the world of eq2.
oh i should add this
my husband sent his main toon to the bizaar server but before he did he sent a toon on my account his nearly 3k plat (he couldnt imagine losing 4 years of work to attain that money because it is deleted on a move to the bizaar) which was sitting just sitting on that toon doing nothing except being recieved by a few RL friends who were playing and i felt generous, never once did i sell, never ONCE did i recieve RL cash money for any of this. but ban me they did, so be carefull if you are loaning/giving friends any amount of plat.

Re: Plat farmers
Is this in response to that recent event of a huge amount of accounts getting hacked? I think I heard somewhere it was...
I guess, that will cool down after awhile? I am saving all my items until it does. I have like 6 36 boxes filled with items to be sold on the broker...lol
