Wasted is subjective. Not everybody feels that pouring lots of time into raiding is worth it. I do plan on raiding some day but not now. I work full time, school full time, do videography and build computers for people on the side. I don't have time to commit myself indefinitely to raiding all the time.

I do however enjoy making armor, doing quests and getting AA's...doing instances and grouping with my wife and friends...running around and taking out AA's, etc. That is not wasted at all IMO. The quests (especialy in EoF) have some great story lines.

I was in a couple higher end raiding guilds back in my days on EQ1. I look fondly back on those days. I have also gone back to school and gotten married and taken on other things listed above since then. Those things are more important to me.
