On the other hand didn't a large portion of what was verant switch over to vanguard's development staff? And how did that turn out again?
When you start making one game, and then in the middle of development decide to do 180 degree turn, chances are that you`ll fail. That is what happened with Vanguard

Considering you played EQ2 for the first year and a half and haven't had much exposure from it since, you might want to consider re-rolling since there is a ton more content.

You may want to give your current server a little more time. I have noticed that Blackburrow has been quiet at times lately. Even my guild has a lot of people not logging in as much (family guild). Some of it has to do with the change of the season, some are just taking a hiatus.

If you mainly enjoyed grouping, try rolling a new toon on one of the more active servers. But I would really suggest making a new toon on your server so that you have the benefits of your existing characters (harvesting, money, etc). There are a ton of solo quests to the point you will out level half the content. And while you are soloing, you can keep an eye on the chat channels to see if any pickup groups are forming. Thats what I have been doing lately, but I also have a friend I duo with on a regular basis, so it makes things much more fun.

Either way, best of luck and welcome back!

I guess rather than bring players together within the content, SOE decides it's more fun to bring players together on fewer servers. There's all this talk about how lamentably fast a player can level a character to 80, but that sure as flies on shit isn't what I'm hearing from new players.

With collections you can get to 40 in 20 min, then from 40-70 in but a week, asumeing you have friends to help if you get stuck and if you know where to go

The problems start around level 58-60. You run out of quests in KoS very quickly, so you need to group. But there's nobody to group with. Even on Splitpaw, which is a very busy server, it feels like there's nobody to group with before T8.

I levelled up quite a few toons in the last year or so, and all of them required a little bump-start when the KoS quests ran out (think warlock + paladin + healer + SoS/PoA).

I would think it safe to say that most players don't have the same guided tour that some of us have gotten so familiar with and so prepared for.

SOE's answer to getting more players is always raising the level cap... which actually drives people off. Adding more content to a buggy game instead of fixing what we already have is a bad idea.

Even on Kithicor the population is way down. I haven't seen the crafting channels or the trader channels used in months. All chat except for 70-79 is dead. Hell, even the botters have just about given up because theres nobody to sell plat to.

LOL that's a good point. You know a game is on it's last legs when the plat farmers leave.

according to this report Eq2 isn't in the top 5 mmo subs as estimated by the NPD.

while not 100% accurate i'd trust the numbers considering the source.
