Slow day at work, haven't trolled these boards in MONTHS since I quit eq2!
LotR is going to do well with the WoW crowd IMO, but not make a serious splash in the MMO ring. The Beta lost me when I was a 2nd lvl Champion, had already met Gandalf, and he needed my help! Oh noes! No thanks. The graphics are damn near worse than WoW's as well.
VG is not the godsend of MMO's, but it brings back alot fo the flavor that EQ1 had, with better combat mechanics and a HUGE friggin world. NDA is lifted now so..can say that there's 40+ "premier" dungeons scheduled open from day 1 of Live..that being a dungeon that is going to take you 2-4 hours to complete, level-appropriate. There's tons of little mini-dungeons around as well, 1-2 hour types. it's got alot of bugs still but they're patching constantly as of late.
They've said (and from a bit of testing) that VG raids will not be one uberboss a la eq1/2, but more massive amounts of raid-style mobs packed together. Multi-tanking is going to be a big thing, as CC is being limited. There will still be the uberboss mobs, but not EVERY raid is going to be that style. They've run a couple tests, but it prolly will not make Live. Not a problem as the level rate is not too fast, so it'll take people 3-5 weeks at least to grind to max.
