Re: AoC: will it wipe out EQ2?
Im fairly new to EQ2 and im quite enjoying it
Theres oodles of stuff to do, levels, AAs, crafting, completing collections, learning languages, getting Lore and Legends, those HQ things that give you loads of status in the end, etc
I have 12 days /played now and am level 54, though 2 of those days are propably due to me forgetting to log off when i go out for some hours
My biggest complaint is how obscure the quest descriptions are, 90% of the time i have zero idea where to go and i HAVE to look the quest up on the wiki, because to be honest spending 30 minutes running aimlessly around in a desert looking for a invisible patch of wind i need to capture isnt that much fun. Ok maybe a bad example, it did say the highest dune of the desert. Oh and the whole "placeholder" concept is repulsive, im starting to get tired of it. (i had to kill 27 palace sweepers before the first truth-key one appeared...)
I definately wouldnt mind some more grouping though, i have hardly been in a single dungeon, i have only been to death fist citadel twice. Once was with 1 guy controlling the rest of the group (0_o) and the other time was with 4 level 70+ guildies taking me through the place for quests. Its not too bad though, soloing is immersive, its quite interesting how enemies talk to you and throw various taunts, some of which you dont understand until you learn the language, very nice touch.
As for population it doesnt seem too bad, while i didnt meet another player until level 10, as i have gotten higher and higher i see more and more people as i go, and getting a few people together to kill some ^^^ enemies isnt too time consuming.
WoW isnt that populated in the lower levels either, theres TONS of people in the high 10's level range due to people making level 19 (the top level of the 10-19 pvp bracket) pvp twinks, but for example in the high 30s to mid 50s the game is almost deserted. (on my newest character i didnt meet a single other player when i quested through an entire zone (ironically said zone is called "desolace") )

Re: AoC: will it wipe out EQ2?
Played EQ2 since launch and won't stop, but I did play AoC for an hour last night and it is fresh and fun. If you like MMOs it does deserve a try. Levelling is much faster than EQ2 and solo friendly.

Re: AoC: will it wipe out EQ2?
I'll check out AoC in a few weeks/months but doubt I'll quit Eq for it. For me it's all about the endgame and from what I've read AoC raiding doesn't seem like anything new or special.
From the July 08' PCGamer massive AoC preview:
Quote:
We rode along with one of the devs on tier 2 of the Kheshatta raid, a dungeon that's home to the evil Stygian wizard (and Earth's most powerful sorcerer), Thoth-amon. The game's total of eight raid dungeons will contain 20 encounters, all with bosses- and some, like this one, with multiple bosses.
All bosses regenerate over time, and all have one or more special behaviors. The first we saw, a stone god, grows increasingly tougher the longer it takes you to fight him: he can summon minions, and also spews a noxious, health-sapping bog around the room.
Next up were a pair of fire and ice succubi, who aptly demonstrated that raiding groups will need to adapt on the fly. The trick to these two: groups must divide and conquer, fighting the succubi simultaneously and keeping them apart, because the closer together these two get, the more deadly they become.

I'm sure if this game were called Age of Faabio, it would have that option. Thank god it doesn't. Last thing I want to run into is 2 homos cybering in the woods.....::barf::
