I agree that EQ2 is dying, I guess, but it's not going to die, not for quite some time. That's my point.

Dying/schmying - it aint dead yet in fact a long way from it - I have 3 level 80's and its just as easy to find company for my level 25 Pally or 37 Bruiser as it is for the higher levels. There's always someone willing to help either in or out of Guild. The longer you play, the more friends you make along the way, I enjoy helping random people with stuff - it makes a nice change to be the one giving help instead of seeking it (I always felt awkward asking for help when I was a new player). Then more often than not they are there for you when you need em - there's a lot of lovely people that play this game and a good community of players on the whole. The first two people I met in this game at around level 7 when I knew bugger all about anything, gave me so much helpful advice, Ive never forgotten them and Id be there for them whatever they needed.
So quit sounding the death march, middle age may be approaching but EQ2 is still perky in the right places.

I wouldn't say EQ2 is dead, more like on life support. Some of us were willing to pull the plug, some weren't.

And then it went live, probably too early for it's own good (although they dont have a nearly unlimited dev budget like EA/Mythic so they sort of had to push it out), and people realized that it wasn't this incredible revolutionary new thing. It was just another virtual world, like many before it, with a different backstory and its own share of bugs and poor game design choices.

But it has tits, blood, and DX10.. can I get an amen, brotha? Can I get a fuckin hallelujah?
I guess almost half has already dropped out before launch then since the game has sold 400k copies.......

AoC at launch has 8 raid zones, guild cities and guild battle keep seiges, not to mention PvP minigames. Its endgame isn't even comparable to EQ2's at launch as its far superior.

I agree whole-heartedly. EQ2 is suffering from player decline, part probably due to AoC, part probably from cabin fever and/or burnout. While I still enjoy playing may alt Illusionist, I have been solo 90% of the time lately. Putting on a LFG tag doesn't do much of anything either, can spend a whole night with it on and nary a tell for a group. Part of my problem probably is that I am kind of in that limbo stage at lvl 64. Not many people have much of a reason to do SoS anymore and I am on the low side to do the EoF instances. At least 70-80 won't be too hard.

It would be nice if sony would do something to help out their player base. Either side-kicks ala City of Heroes, re-vamp some mid lvl quest lines, add some interesting mid-lvl instances, release a new (worth-while) adventure pack, release a new quest and/or raid series where you have to be mentored or at lvl to do and that scales to your group's party (so as to not be a cake-walk if you have lvl 80s mentored), merge some servers, or etc. Anything dealing with lower lvl content would have to have rewards desirable to lvl capped players. Maybe nice appearance items, upgrades to existing items, weapon/armor dye, a really nice weight redux bag, mount appearance or stat upgrades, and the list goes on. It's really not hard thinking up rewards that are useful but not game-breaking.

Like Illuminator said, give us no reason to complain about not being able to find a group.

On a side note about side-kicks / mentoring up. It would almost have to be that you get no disco xp/AA and cannot get quest updates, otherwise there would be too much room for abusing the system. But to balance out the benefits, there would have to be some kind of xp bonus.

Would you expect uber loot at such a low level?

I would make AA relative to the up-mentored level; a level 1 mentored to 80 would get the same percentage per that the level 80 would get. You don't want to cut anyone short, otherwise they become mere tourists and might as well go back to solo hell.

Or something like that. There are holes to work out but it can work.
