Re: RoK Is The Best Selling EQ2 Expansion Of All Time
Yeah but I have also seen a full raid of (I am hoping non-raiders) wipe to them. Yeah we (vp raiders and above) can 1 group them but also we are a very small fraction of the gaming community. I would like to see more end game as well, I only log in to raid anymore. However, in Eq2 we are just not enough of the player base for sony to fork out the money to invest more into end game vs. casual game. IMO, it's probably the same issue every other gaming company will face. I haven't played them yet but I would be surprised if AoC or even Warhammer has "contested" mobs.

I'm pretty sure that's how you're suppose to level in RoK.

Re: RoK Is The Best Selling EQ2 Expansion Of All Time
I don't think it is a problem of monotonous grinding before you get into a zone that is the problem. It is a problem of progression and gear being worthwhile in progression and classes not feeling ignored on problems with epics or ca's spells.
Instead of SOE fixing some of the problems of the progression of gear from questing to raiding they throw in some random zone with some random gear as their fix. They need to concentrate on the proper progression of the game and fix a lot of stuff.
Also look at certain classes that want to help make thier epic worthwhile to raids. You can see that from just reading class forums etc. But they are just ignored.
Not saying the classes need this huge revamp just certain things in game are useless anymore (HP regen). And the way they itemize certain things make harder content seem like a waste of time for some.
You can tell it is the community wanting to help with good feedback and feeling ignored that is pushing subscriptions away.

But hey, rose colored glasses and all that.

Or maybe more like, yes you CAN raid this stuff, but if you do you're gonna get gang raped by guards if you try to go about your daily business in 1/3 of the expansion, unless you kill 10000 trivial mobs.
Actually iirc if you killed the Dane, so became very very kos to the dwarves, you could repair it pretty quickly by killing the bosses in the giant's city (forgot the name of the place, krom-something no doubt). Just, it was fucking hard to get in there and kill them.. And of course it was all contested.

And it'd only take a day, if that.
Anyone saying RoK is a 'good' expansion really must either be new (or fairly new) to EQ2 and will soon change their opinion, or be mentally retarded. OR they're precisely the kind of person Sony are aiming this pile of worthless fucking crap at these days. Maybe we should get have them profiled?!?!
My good EQ2 memories come from KoS and EoF. I only really liked the way the mechanics were working mid RoK, especially the huge step up in achievable dps from EoF, but the encounters and raid zones are fucking horrible. T1 was clear first time we went in, T2 I think we also cleared first time, after some retardation on VS and Overking, but it was the first instances iirc. VP cleared at least up to Silverwing first instance.. Actually I have a feeling we cleared the zone first instance, but were slowed down by SW. I don't remember 100% though, I'm sure someone remembers better.
Anyone who struggles with those zones should probably kill themselves to stop their genes being passed on. It's all easy, boring, repetitive, buggy, laggy, cheap and generally fucking embarassing.
And to the person who said 'people leave but they all seem to come back', not this time methinks. There's an alternative, which is at the very least looking like enjoyable casual gaming. And there's many more on the horizon. Also the reason people hang around on these boards is because a) the EQ2 community is fucking superb, and b) many of us played and loved this game for years. It still hurts that Sony fucked it up so badly. We can still vent about it.

Re: RoK Is The Best Selling EQ2 Expansion Of All Time
ill be honest someone who is somewhat of a soe fanboi, i was disapointed in rok, i was more disapointed in dof, but thats a diffrent story i had high hopes as the expantions were getting better and better, dof was horrable, kos was intertaining, eof was just kick ass and rok, eh it was enjoyable for the first 2 days, and was enjoyable the first couple times i ran instances, then it was bleh, im still gonna play becuase i have a glimmer of hope for soe now ( a glimmer as they wiped all hope with rok) with the new advertising push, and the dev comment that they are bringing back multimob encounters with the new expantion and in the new zones to a lesser extent.
with the hope that they add AA with this next expantion, which i always enjoyed, though this is my last chance for eq2, i cant live another rok, to be honest the only reason im still playing is i never really raided anything minus content that was 10 levels under me till teir 8, so unlike most of the community i havent been burnt out on the horrible itemization and the rehashed strats.

|
It is a hell of a lot faster. With adventure vitality (last time I checked around 2 months ago), killing a solo white con rewards 0.1% XP roughly, while killing a white con heroic in a group of 6 is one fifth to one tenth. Add on top that handing in a quest will, on average, reward 2% of XP, you can't even begin to say that heroic content is a fun option.
If you want a good heroic dungeon, have a look at Runnyeye, or Ruins of Varsoon. Plenty of nameds, nice XP, enough space for groups.
Compare that to Chardok, or a lot worse Sebilis: Crappy drop chances (still), a very high ratio of trash mobs vs. named mobs, ...
Let alone that a solo quest quite often rewards 20g or more, and heroic ones (again, last time I checked ~2 months ago) were like 8 or 9 (the KC ones).

|
I very much doubt that this is the case for all players who seek heroic content. I think it's more the other way around, people rush to 80 just because it is so fast, and hence most players are at the level cap (A bit perpetual, I know).

|
Personally I would have gotten to 80 asap on my main character, simply because my guild raids. I do not think however that I'd have rushed my other characters if anything on the road made it viable to stick around longer.
