Raiding in EQ2 (in contrast with WOW and EQ1)
I'm a bit bored of wow's raid content, and want to see something new. Anyone who's raided great instances (in WOW) such as Naxxramas can tell the game has some entertaining and complex encounters. But what about EQ2, are the boss fights scripted and different from each other, or is it just tank and spank.
Finally, I've heard from a few sources that despite the old game engine the devs at EQ1 have pulled off and made these elaborate encounters.
Nuff said about what I've heard, I have hardly even touched either of the Everquest games. Now before I spend my summer leveling up a toon, I'd like to know which one to pick (EQ1 or EQ2) from a HC raiders point of view. Anyhow, if possible, I'd like to form my own opinion, so could you give a comparison between the bosses in WOW and the other games. :P

I haven't raided in EQ1 or WoW, but the fights in EQ2 (RoK) is heavily scripted compared to previous expansions in EQ2.

Naxxramas as in the 4 Horsemen encounter?
Yes they are different, and do vary from tank and spank but with less scripting

Re: Raiding in EQ2 (in contrast with WOW and EQ1)
everquest 1 has some of the best mmo content, raid and group. its not even comparable with wow, the game has actual progression, and it can take you literally months or even years to max your character out. id not advise playing everquest unless you are a really hardcore gamer, its a time consuming game, and you need to be working on your char non stop.
ive played everquest on and off for about 8 years now or so, the tradeskill system makes you do actual work(you wont be capped in any tradeskill for about a good 6 months+ and thats if you even have enough money to do them), you will not be decked out in raid gear immediately after hitting level cap, in fact you probably wont even be raiding for about 6 months to a year, you have to get to the level cap which will take you a fair ammount of time, then you have to get about 600-1800 aa points(can get about 5-10 a day if you play hardcore), most guilds will even request to see your /played befor you will even be considered for an invite into the guild(if its a raiding guild), as well as your gear.
finally when you hit level cap and have a decent ammount of aa, you can try getting into a raiding guild.
everquest is not for people used to wow, when you die, you leave your corpse with all of your items on it, money, armor, bags, potions. after dying you are then forced to either summon(if you have money) or do a corpse run, and risk dying again and creating another corpse. you also have experience loss, when you die, if you dont get a rez(preferably max 96% of the exp lost given back), you can literally lose days of progress, maybe even weeks, no to mention if you just leveled and die, you will lose the level.
starting out is difficult, since the game is into its 14th expansion, and most people are already max level, you will more then likely be soloing to at least level 60+.
raiding is difficult, mobs have abilities like death touch, this will kill anyone out right, and it is usually on a 30 second timer, on top of people dying every 30 seconds, you have to watch for aoes which hit hard, adds spawning, boss mobs quadding for 5k+(20k dmg in 1 round). on top of all this, everytime you die to a death touch or aoe, you lose experience and have a chance of deleveling.
raids in everquest are also double the size of wow raids, raids can go upto 72 people. all 72 people need to understand the fight, and do there jobs, if people die they need to be rezzed asap, mobs can spawn adds non stop, these are either mezzed or killed, can end up with 20+ mobs mezzed at once while you are fighting a boss mob who is death touching and aoeing, hitting for 20k dmg on a tank that has only 18k hp, and summoning adds every 30 seconds that hit just as hard.
wow is dumbed down, you have no risk of losing levels or having exp loss, instead you are paying to repair armor, which isnt that big of a deal since you can make 500g a day easily, when you die you dont leave a corpse with all your money/items.
everquest 2 fits more in with wow, you can reach max level within a month of playing about 6 hours a day, max aa/level. you can also get geared up pretty easily from instances, and you have a much higher chance of raiding in everquest 2 then everquest.
most of the fights are unique in everquest 2, some of it is just trash, but when you get into high end raiding it gets pretty hard, people need to know what to do, there is almost no room for errors, events are heavily scripted, taking into account how much mana you have, what your resists are etc.
some bosses put deuffs on the raid when you use too much mana you die outright, or spawn mobs that will wipe an entire raid. you can have a dot on you that will consume all your power, or maybe even cause you to blow up people around you. most of the raids are very heavily scripted, and require lots of practice to get them down.
also you can not be spoon fed by mods, such a DBM, there is no DBM for eq2 that im aware of, you need to know what to do and when to do it, fail to do the right thing at the right time, and you will wipe the raid.
and there is no 10 manning current raid content like you can in wow.
but if you want a game for the challenge everquest 1 is the game you want to be playing.
if you want it for graphics/easy game play, everquest 2 is the game you want to be playing.

Re: Raiding in EQ2 (in contrast with WOW and EQ1)
cant agree more with spiky, bit long to read but defo a nice picture of both eq1 and 2.
to back up what he said, eq1 imo was and will ever be the most hardcore medieval fantasy mmorpg ever and it s definatly the best game to play if you want the hc kind of game experience. takes time to lvl and know your toon, takes time to travel the world and equip yourself, get to know ppl enough to raid with em (puting 50+ players together to raid correctly takes time) etc.
even tho the game gets pretty old now and less active, i d recommend eq1, i stoped it for personal reasons back in time and went to eq2 because it s less adictive. but if i still had the time to play like i played before, i d still be on it for sure. but of course raiding in eq1 takes time
edit : basicaly if you r bored of wow raid content and wanna see something different, dont go for eq1. as you wont raid for a year or even more for sure. in eq2 you could easily join a raidguild (hc or not) already involved in the last expansion in less than 4 month if you put the time in it.

Re: Raiding in EQ2 (in contrast with WOW and EQ1)
Don't waste your time with hardcore raiding in EQ2. EQ has great raiding but that game is so out dated it's pointless to play.
I only play MMOs to raid and there is absolutely nothing that satisfies me atm and I don't see any thing in the near future for HC raiders, besides adopt the pvp aspect which is taking over the MMO industry.

Re: Raiding in EQ2 (in contrast with WOW and EQ1)
If they redid the Eq1 engine, including all art, animation textures, i.e brand new engine i would probably play it
