Re: How many of you came back from AoC?
I think the Warhammer community will be 10x worse than AoC. WoW was a straight rip off of Warhammer and there are going to be countless bored WoW 14 year olds that say, "omg, Warhammer stole WoW's l33t look. I'm getting bored with WoW, so I'll check it out!@*!"

It will fail. Looks like dogshit right now. One day we're going to finally come to terms with the fact that nothing will ever make us feel like we did running around exploring EQ1.

Qft
I started with Ultima Online, a 2d mmo with hardly any real depth. I miss the "feeling" it gave tho, which is something you only get once. Back then any MMOrpg was huge and innovative.
Imo people don't hate Eq2. They're simply bored of playing the same game for 3-4 years and want that "feeling" back.

I'm glad because the 3 hours that I played EQ1, all I saw were a bunch of people sitting around and occasionally, they would go kill shit and then come back and sit. Be back later, I need to go get ganked by kids. :P

Yeah, that worked so well with EQ2 and Vanguard. Not saying they won't fix things eventually just that the days of paying for potential should be dead and gone when you have stellar examples of said potential never being realized.

And if those options aren't there, I probably won't get immersed and I'll just find another game.

Wait. So you drive a corvett and own a F-14?

Re: How many of you came back from AoC?
AoC rocks.
Everyone looks the same? One race. Try this, have all of your friends in EQ2 make Human toons without seeing each others. Then get together and see how much you all look alike compared to how varied the HUMANS are in AoC.
Don't want to beta test? Really? How can you play EQ2 and say that shit... Itemization? Still in Beta. Raid progression? Still in Beta. PvP? Yep... ...Beta. Won't pay to Beta test...? Funny.
I love EQ2. It is an amazing game. If the company every quits being a bunch of bullshit scam artists I would keep playing it. But from their childish Community Mis-Representatives all the way to their cheating Devs the company reeks of "We don't give a flying fuck"...
So I'll gladly give AoC a shot.
Is it the same as EQ2? No.
Is it fun. Yes.

No, he's just outdated and overrated. Great when facing inferior foes but against a comparable opponent, outmatched.

Re: How many of you came back from AoC?
My wife and I both tried AoC (and my son actually, but he quit much sooner than us because he likes to play the 'beastly' classes and only being able to play humans was boring...) and were frustrated and unamused my pretty much everything about the game. Mind you, we actually stuck it out for a couple weeks in attempt to get over whatever low level humps there were to find out what the classes could really do, but eventually we gave up and cancelled our accounts before the free month was even up (we still have time left actually, but don't have any desire to log in)
The collision system is horrible in all aspects, the game is strictly quest based level paths(just like WoW) and super easy. However the combat mechanics are mindless clicking if you play a melee class.. it reminded me of when i played a bard in EQ1 where you would hotkey numbers to UI buttons, only in EQ1 you were actually doing something WHILE attacking, vice in AoC there is no autoattack so you have to button mash just to attack at all...
The gear stats are confusing and don't scale, nor do they look decent no matter the level of gear (level 10 noob light armor looks exactly like level 60 light armor with exception of a few particular pieces). AoC pretty much attracted the WoW crowd since it takes Blizzard 2 years at a time to put out new expansions, so unfortunately you have to deal with all the WoW kiddies as well.
And in the end, unless you have a insane top end system, you will be lucky to see 25 fps without turning everything and anything off, taking away from the 'Ooohh pretty' aspect of scenery and graphics. Personally even on high I wasn't impressed by the shadows and grass/trees, so it was even less once I had to turn them off to keep from lagging up in crowded areas. WTG Funcom reverse engineering a game from DX10 to DX9. Sadly for EQ2 being as much older than AoC, the graphic difference between the two is minimal at best on high settings, only I can turn all of it on in EQ2 with my setup and have no lag, vice being unplayable in AoC.
No thanks, maybe in 6 months to a year I will check out AoC again, but that's only once I get bored with the next EQ2 expansion...
