Default Re: Vanguard, AoC now War???

BioWare was bought by EA, so if they made a good game, I wouldn't expect it to get the support that it would need. Warhammer will be a clone of WoW (perhaps the other way around) and all of the bored WoW players will be flocking to that game in droves. I got a taste of the WoW community and if that was only thing I didn't like the game, I still wouldn't have played it any longer. To see that kind of community migrate to Warhammer will destroy any hopes of it being good.

I am just gunna go off on my own rant here because I kinda agree with a little of what most everyone is saying here....

I didn't expect AoC to be the "end all, be all" MMO and to totally wipe out EQ2. I did expect it to put quite a blow to eq2's fanbase which I believe did happen. Honestly though AoC imho wasnt all I expected it to be. and here are a few reasons why..

***DISCLAIMER*** These are my OWN reasons..not a generalization***

-Repeating gameplay (Same old shit, goto open area, do quests, goto next area)
-Damn there every dungeon with the exception of 2 I believe instanced,
-Lack of promised raid content
-Insanely easy leveling
-Alot of the 13-15 year old WoW fanbase coming over and just being overall jackasses and morons. Flooding the chat channels with dumb shit and KS'ing like it fucking honestly mattered (Spawn timers are NOWHERE near EQ type)

But to be civil about things I left EQ2 a few months before AoC came out basically because I was sick and tired of the road that the game was going down... Developers dipping out, being assholes, and the game not listening to its most dedicated players. And just overall fuckup of Kunark. I think my love and devotion for the game kinda died around then. AoC was just a rebound fuck....

I havent really seen anything in EQ2's future that as a raider would persuade me to return. And honestly for that matter any MMO I have heard about in development... I think the days of a hardcore MMO are long gone now that MMO's are being made to be "Mainstream" and there isnt a particular genre of people that are being catered to anymore. Now its just the almighty dollar doing the decision making.

But I will tell ya what though...I am having a fucking AWESOME time playing on a EQ1 Emulated server.. The one I play on is specially designed to let you do raid/dungeon content with 3-4 people. (Because its a small server of roughly 300 heads..if interested PM me for info) Hahaha nothin says lovin like clearing PoF or PoH Duoing ;)
Another team is currently in the alpha stage of making a Emulated EQ2 server. I would LOVE to get on one of them where the players have a huge voice.

I hit 80 in AoC in less than one week from server launch (3 day early access that is). I didn't exploit... I just knew where to go and what to do from playing in beta. Yes, it is that easy. AoC will be good in a couple months when they finally release some content.

Uh wrong. WoW is a steaming pile of shit now. Never was that great to begin with unless you have low standards.

Just check out the forums about all the bugs and lack of CS. Lack of attention to so many aspects of the game. The worse class imbalances, (specially pvp speaking, where rouges are patheticly op'd and have been for hella long time).

And having had played it a year into release and again this past year, I can safely say that the game is nothing to be all ooooh and ahhh about at all. It a cute game to mess around in from time to time, but its nothing more than child's play.

As for the disappointment in new games. The sad fact is we all are vets in the mmo world. We've been there done that. We know what to expect, and search relentlessly for that omg feeling we all felt when we experienced an mmo for the first time. It cannot be replicated. Just like we are all virgins only once. Once that cherry is popped, its just gone.

Personally I do have high hopes for warhammer, it has a history. It has been in the works for a long time. It has the lore and so much potental. Time will tell.

And although I don't play eq anymore, it will always have a place in my mmo heart. Eq popped my mmo cherry.

I bought wow 2 months ago and got to 60, it was ok, but i got bored

Some of the high quality fraps vids ive seen on Warhammer look very good, ill try it when it comes out for sure.

But in all seriousness, i think we take how good eq2 is for granted, sure it might be a bit content starved for the lv 80 raider, but im sure they can fix that, and i for one are looking forward to the new expansion.

The problem with EQ2 is just like all MMOs. Players will keep on playing WELL beyond the point where they're burned out, and at that point they have such a distaste for the game it's ridiculous.

Oh, and raiding when you feel like you're making no progress sucks. I was at the point where I didn't even care about what gear I got. Stats meant basically nothing for DPS, and even if I got some "amazing" item, the overall boost was like 3 dps, maybe 10 in a really rare occasion. Wow, I went from 2100 to 2103. And I got that "awesome" boost once every 1-3 weeks, because of having to save up DKP and wait for the right drops and all that jazz. And my guild was getting nowhere fast with raiding (though as far as the non-top guilds on my server it was up there, if only because they never stopped throwing themselves at the raid encounter over and over and over), actual zone progress felt non-existant because it was so slow and inconsistent.

I want to see another game like SWG (pre-nge). That game had so much potential with the non linear gameplay that all games seem to give now. The crafting system was pretty sweet too, it was really cool to be able to create different types of the same item depending on how hard you worked on getting proper resources and doing testing.

Now most games I play just have level 1, level 2 new spells, level 3 new spells, and so on and so forth.

Anyone know of any MMO's with the non-linear progression that are actually fun to play? Is warhammer going to be like that? Or just more of the same like AoC is.

From what I can tell, it looks like warhammer will be very close to WoW. I honestly don't see any MMO on the horizon that will be as polished as EQ2 is and I imagine that I will be playing this game for a while. A lot of people complain about this game, but in comparison to everything else that is out there, this one really shines.

Everyone here says VG is dead, and it doesn't even crop up as a viable option.
The launch was horrid we all know this.
The crafting system in VG is a lot like the description of SWG i see above.
The lvling is lvling..*shrug*
Diplomacy - well hell point at it in another game so i can compaire pls?
The comunity is small but very nice ppl, a lot of friends to be had there.
Raids are still being worked out from what I hear - but the fact that there are even raid dedicated guilds tells me theres something there (I'm not at a lvl to experience it yet)

At any rate, I'm giving the game another shot and have not been dissapointed yet, this could be due to the trapped feeling of dealing with AoC's nonstop instancing into small zones with collision detection *shudder* for 2 months - how about a priest dying from rezzing a group of ppl only to have them pop on top of her and trap her -. It's like going from a twin bed with a partner to a california king.

Not to mention depth, I like the fact that my best abilities aren't jsut handed to me, I have to go out find the mob that knows the ability, get the mob to use it on me and I will eventualy learn it from him (the mob). That is just one aspect of the depth to this game

The game is going to make a comeback, and they will have to upgrade the servers soon.
Already getting to a point where servers are reaching max again and this is a recent occurance acording to the players I'm guilded with.
these are just my opinions tho
