and yer welcome on taking your topic seriously. It's summer so the trolls are bored and the game is going to hell in a handbasket so they have nothing to do but try to drive the rest of us nuts with their utter BS. Since LFG isn't around much anymore to patrol these guys can get away with practically anything nowadays. /sigh

The same thing can happen using your credit card at your local store or someone overheaing your conversation about something sensitive.

Almost every company now a days uses a third party billing processor to handle credit card data. I don't know if SOE does also, but I'd bet they do too.

Re: What is SOE allowed to do with the logs?
Well, if you are putting your credit card info into tells/chat, or putting your userid/password in to tells/chat, then a possible infiltration by a crack team of SoE ninja's probably not your greatest concern.
It sounds like a complete lack of common sense and personal resposibility would be the main problem there.

Re: What is SOE allowed to do with the logs?
Soe does not monitor chat for liability reasons. Of course all chat is recorded, but if they were monitoring it constantly they would be in lawsuit hell. When you are a guide its not all about being nice to players, one of the things they stress very hard on you is not to engage in discussion with other players who are saying they are suicidal, murderous or otherwise. Because SOE is obligated to report things things otherwise they could get their asses sued hardcore.

Re: What is SOE allowed to do with the logs?
I tried reporting someone once and they said they did not have record of the chat log because I did not use /reported after the convo. Apparently when you type that it records the last 100 lines for them to review.
So, either they don't record chat logs, which honestly, why would they waste space on that? Or they lied to me.
Both seem reasonable, but which is true?

I understand that you had experienced some issues with a character by the name of [radio edit]. My apologies for the frustration that this issue must have caused you. I looked for a /report but did not find one. A /report will capture and record the last 100 visible lines of chat text you have received. Keep in mind that other things such as battle spam will also be included in this report. You will have to type "/report <player name>" while the applicable text is within 100 lines so that it can be recorded for further review. After doing this, you will then have to file a /petition and be as detailed as possible about the incident, making sure to mention that you filed a /report.
It's essential that you follow this process whenever you witness something that you wish to show GM's since /reports are the only form of evidence GM's can use. Screenshots and player logs are not viable forms of evidence given that they can be altered by the player submitting the report. Please remember to /report then /petition the matter should you witness any behavior of this nature again. Thank you for your understanding with this matter, and if you have any other concerns we may be able to address in the future, feel free to contact us again at any time.

Oh, like you can afford to be judgmental. I found your phone number written on a bathroom wall.

Re: What is SOE allowed to do with the logs?
I can confirm what kenman said is true.
My guess is that SOE scans the logs for certain keywords like "suicide" in order to avoid any potential embarrassment to the company should someone actually go and do something foolish. Trying to be a good corporate citizen and all that.
It does raise privacy issues but if it saves someone's life, I dunno, it's kinda a good thing.
Of course nothing is really private on the net, people should keep this in mind.

It was somewhat of a lie. /report links the last 100 lines of text to your petition. If a GM were particulary dedicated to the job however, he/she could sift through and find the convo in their versions of the logs (which are always active), but that would be tedious, and something nobody would willingly do.

So if you're in a raid clearing trash at the time you pretty much don't get to use this feature of customer service, gg sony.
