Default What is SOE allowed to do with the logs?

This was bugging me for quite a while now.

Should you say any private information in the EQ2 chatchannels? I mean they all land in SOEs logs, also tells, right? So what if lets say a black sheep comes to work for SOE and maybe searches all the logs for the word "password", I'm sure he would be able to log into hella many accounts.

I personally never say any information which is private on the chat, just because of that.

But now my question, first of all are they capable of reading old logs, even tells? And second, are they allowed to read such private information?

I don't think this only goes only for EQ2, but for MMOS in general, but anway.

I'm guessing a lot of marriages would be ended if they felt so inclined :P I can only imagine how much cybering (and exchanging of emails) goes on, and how much condemning evidence they may or may not be holding against people :D

soe owns eq2, they can set the conditions to whatever they like, including what they do with logs. However, the amount of logs makes it simply impossible to monitor it all, so most of the time you talk about *insert random stuff of choice thats against their rules* noone at soe will even notice (unless reported).

I tend to agree with Osibia....I mean think about it...all the players talking in chat channels across how many servers...I think the only time they will pay attention to anything is in a few cases....being a. a player reports another player b. guide sees something in chat to report c. a GM sees something in chat

After having played this game since right after launch I've seen a lot of crap talked in the chat channels and hardly ever is it ever patrolled by SoE. Once in a great while you'll see a GM pop into a channel but pretty much only the lower channels are really patrolled and even then it's by guides and there is only so much they can do anyways. They are stuck using the /report same as us regular players. Only difference is, if they get into a heated discussion with another player they can call upon higher forms of help, but not GM's. They have to stick to getting help from within the guide program.

Honestly though, think about it. Seriously. Do you really think that SoE has time to sit there and pour through all the logs from every single server looking for information to use against their players?

Take this conspiracy theory and put it in the trash where it belongs. SoE is just too lazy.

The other thought I had is....hmm...if you are going to sit in chat and spout off...that is why SoE came up with the /ignore command. As far as private logs go, again I think SoE is too lazy. I think the only time they are actively watching people is when they are monitoring certain situations....like the crap with Yuyoy on my home server of Kithicor. I think back then there may have been the possibility that SoE was monitoring certain players. Yes it is their game, but I do think they have some rules in place to say when and where it's appropriate to monitor players in their private chat. Not saying they always abide by those rules....

I honestly wouldn't give it a second thought if you don't say anything of much interest in private chat. I mean hell how much cyboring goes on in this game...yeeeaahhh...don't think SoE cares very much.

Just my 2cp.

One time I vaguely mentioned being an 11yo girl in tells. Next thing I know, door bell rings, I open, and see:

And then I ran away, ran, till I could run no more:

Totally true tbh.
