I didn't play EQ1, but from an EQ2 stand point, it seems like although Lore is in this game it's not really taken advantage of very often, outside the storyline quests. I mean one could read all the text that <insert random NPC> has to say to you, but generally the quest journal will provide the Cliff's notes to it and the actual history or background to the quest is irrelevent to progressing in the quest or questline.

i think a lot of that has to do with the vision that was eq2. in eq1 u had to talk to people to get the quest to progress you actually had to pick out words or phrases and try to get them to respond... in eq2 u click a box and usually all you have to do is spam the top one and your golden.

what happened to the vision that was the eq2 dialogue with hiring heather graham (sp.) for antonia bayle and christopher lee for lucan? if you go to noobie isle you notice that a lot of them speak to you and once you hit qeynos or freeport for the first time it is like an ambiance of sounds but then you hit about level 20 and.... there is nothing. maybe one here or there with a voice but very rarely. i used to actually sit and listen to these people tell the story, i enjoy a good read. but if you arent gonna put the effort into it then that makes me not want to either.

that unfortunately seems to be the theme of eq2 is a lot of promises at launch that were never kept like:

crafted armor being the best armor you could find (im guessing there was supposed to be fabled recipes?)
master IIIs?
level 100 with the intention of level 200?

these are just things that i remember from beta that were being tossed around. i say open up the sound studio and make this game high tech again!!!

but first fix the lag

Budget, time and a low(ish) subscriber base are responsible for the lack of audio.

As to level 100 to 200. People keep bringing this up. Think about it - we have had 2 or 3 major changes to game mechanics (and many minor ones). Original scaling plans were either floored or it was hype (or both). With all the changes, there is no way any plans from beta regarding scaling mechanics can still be valid.

As to EQ1 quest progression - some of those quests required very obsucre keywords to progress, sorry but I don't find typing near random words (and some of them might as well have been random) to progress a quest very much fun.

There were crafted fabled items in game at or just after launch. I'm not sure why they were removed.

Master 3's probably belong in the failed/unworkable mechanic bin with a number of other ideas.

Pro.
