Yes, no matter where they put them, people will bitch and even more certain, SOE's apologists will come out to complain about all of the people complaining. I just find it snicker-worthy that Sony has suffered a huge profit loss this quarter.

Too bad it is Sony as a whole and not just the incompetent people who cause them to put out some of the weak products. If they are anything liike most companies, they'll view the dip in profits as a loss and lay off random people to cut costs. Unfortunately there usually isn't any rhyme nor reason to such layoffs. What can you expect when a company sees that it didn't make as much as it expected to, jobs need to be cut?

I'd much prefer to support a company whose only product is a single MMO. To survive, they'd have to ensure their customers are happy (without destroying the game by handing out freebies), and they'd have to keep their content up to date to attract new customers and ensure the longevity of the game. Such a company couldn't, and wouldn't, just let their game bleed out, as SOE does with EQ2, running it so that it reaps max profit with least investment. It seems though that MMOs, these days, require massive starting funds to pull off, and if development/launch gets delayed, a collapse would be inevitable.

WIth Eq2, there's too much big-company-manager-shit going on. LON is not a meaningful addition to EQ2. It's pure money-making. Or server transfers for 50$? Pure money making. A company dedicated to their "baby" would not reap in this sort of money from their customers since it prevents the customers from moving their toons en masse when the circumstances require it, thus keeping them playing.

I wonder if there ever could be something like an open source/community-driven MMO, financed through advertising.
