Seriously, just fucking let people PLAY the game. You don't like their "offensive" name, don't play with them. Go somewhere else. There are bigger and better things to worry about in this game than the name Jane Leetbewbs.

I personally couldn't care less about what names people have, some are pretty funny. ~Had a Woodelf Druid friend named Hallass Trudabush ~ As far as People complaining their young kids are seeing offensive names, Why are their kids watching them, or worse playing themselves, a game that is rated for teen and above? I have an 8 year old son who is NOT allowed to watch me play, never mind play himself. If your concerned with what your kid is seeing while your playing a game, maybe you should stop playing and spend some time with your kid instead. Ther's plenty of time to play games when the kids are in bed. Just my 2cp

Most of the silly and obnoxious names I ignore, hell the guild leader for the guild I'm apping with is Rumproast lol! Nektulos is RAMPANT with names that break the rules. Unrest not so much, I think there are more name nazi's there.

The one and only time I ever reported a name was a guild named Skeet Skeet. And, frankly, the only reason I did it was because I grouped with a few of them, and they spent 45 minutes insulting me, calling me a bitch, and saying I sucked ass at my class (which I don't, TYVM!) because one time I asked them if they wanted me to mez adds or not. So, yeah, i was a bitch, reported them twice and they got the guild name changed to Stars hahaha!

Borderline names I don't do anything with. If someone really wants to run around with a retarded name, its their perogative. But if someone is going to walk around with a truely offensive name (racist, rampantly sexist, or vulgar, not just dirty) I will report them. Examples:

Jehova - nah... I thought it was cute that he was a healer and a carpenter
Fukme Harder - probably report it... sorry but I don't want to play with that
Niqqa Killa - (as previously mentioned) probably report as well. Thats just unnecessary.
Smeelly Farrtz - No wouldn't report (but would probably tell him its a clever name)

I dunno, there's a million. Sorry for those who are all for no name restrictions, but there has to be a limit. There is a level of decorum that is expected in society, why shouldn't that same level be applied to online games? Because you can be an anonymous asshole and not have to pay for your crudeness?

It comes down to this: SoE calls the shots. They will determine if a name crosses the line for them.

We all pay our monthly charge. WE decide what crosses the line for us and not only have a right to report something we don't think should be allowed, but as far as I'm concerned a right. I let a lot of names go by but even I have a line I don't want to see crossed (like I explained earlier). There is a line. As one said, vote with your wallet. If they want to let little assholes put up names that would make normal people cringe, then IF it ever bothers me enough, I will cease to play.

What I don't want is to see EQII become WoW with a bunch of teenage (or teenage minded) morons running around trying to outdo each other on the fucktard-o-the-month meter. If nothing else, reporting stupidity serves as a sort of civil society monitoring its own and keeping things in line.

Do some people report things they shouldn't? Yes. Do some people need to lighten up and/or get a damn life letting stupid things bother them? Yes. Do some people take any excuse to abuse the world around them, despite/specifically to the detriment and displeasure of those around them? Yes. Could we keep our mouths shut and allow it? Yup. Should we? I don't think so.

I'm a young moderately paid white male living in the midwest. Can a person run up and down the road yelling at any of my minority friends every foul racist comment they can think of just because they can and free speach is protected? Yup. Am I gonna call the cops when they kick his ass? Nope...

The only reason why I'm such an advocate AGAINST the naming policy is because 1) my own main's name now and 2) I"ve had my beastlord name changed in EQ1 (Tweakerbell Kissyfurr) That name wasn't offensive at all, yet someone decided to report me for it, for whatever reason. The reason I got was "Wasn't a fanstasy name". I soloed with my beastlord. I never grouped, never bothered anyone, yet someone decided to be all fucking HIGH AND MIGHTY thinking they were doing the world a HUGE favor by having my name changed.

Yeah. How fucked up is that?

Was I hurting anyone? NO - I soloed away from people.
Was I griefing anyone? NO - I was away from people.
Was I being an ass in chat? NO - I would rarely talk in it unless I could answer a question.
Was I farming something that people could use? NO - I barely had enough plat to buy my spells, let alone decent gear to keep up with the loot dropping mobs.

So WHY was anyone bothering to report me? - DON'T KNOW - other than the person wanted to be a TOTAL FUCKING ASSWIPE and thought he was doing the HUUUUGE world a favor by having my name changed.

EQ advocates getting drunk but names that aren't to the "fantasy strain" on a NON RPG SERVER have to be changed.

FUCKING HYPOCRITES
