I'd be interested to know where the keylogger came from. and how to detect it. I've been randomly booted to desktop before on my main account and no one has that info at all... paranoid, maybe, but I'd hate to think all the (so-called) hard work I've done for the last few years could be taken from me :\

Always great to hear when someone has a good CSR experience, we hear so many nightmares. Being able to get the original account information and change everything probably smoothed the process.

Once upon a time my EQ1 account had its password changed, seemingly spontaneously. It took three passes through the "change my PW and send me the new one" cycle to get back into it. We never did figure out what happened.

That really sucks that you ended up with a keylogger. You're extremely lucky they didn't sell your gear and make you naked. My account in WoW got hacked last January just about this exact same time actually. Same situation, I was playing then suddenly kicked out of game and my password changed, but what's worse is I was the only owner of the account and never once shared my password. When I logged in 90% of all my gear was gone and I lost about 300g which in wow is like ~60p maybe. Oddly enough the only item they didn't sell was my fellstrike, 1/1000 drop off of a 10man named mob.
Anyway I know I went off topic, but I know how you feel. Oh and by the way I spent three months talking to customer service through e-mail etc and never got a single item returned to me although I did recover my account after 3 mo.

being a dumbfuck who downloads a keylogger and pays the consequences and being hacked are two completely different things. goddamn why do people blame their own idiocy on some mysterious "hacker" every single time without fail. "oh noes i got haxed" turns out they were a dumbfuck and gave someone their login and they gave it to someone else. "oh noes i got haxed" turns out they download shit anyone with an iq over 12 would ignore because they think getting leet "warez" involves going to some webpage with 138 activex controls. "oh noes i got haxed" turns out their kid brother was watching them log on.


it's kind of like the hot mcdonald's coffee shit. something bad happened to me? well fuck it's not because i'm a fucking DUMBASS, it's because someone else is evil!

as far as the OP....yeah sure you can clean your computer NOW. but can you definitively say how LONG your computer may have been compromised and what ELSE has been transmitted? you better go through every online financial transaction you do and change every password you have along with every security question and every profile.

remember kiddies, if you need a crack for that leet game or the new winamp, <snip> is NOT the place to go. investing in a firewall that allows you to control outgoing traffic is probably smart too....and absolutely NOTHING should have server permissions.

since the computer i play on is not only mine, we made it kinda a rule to never do anything more important than check myspace on it, since in between all of us, some dumb fuck was sure to get something like this on it, handling any sort of financial shit on a computer that more than one person shares is kinda retarded unless they are a spouse, or very very trustworthy.

Two things -

1. Calthine is not down with the ways of the haxor - she is a mom who bakes cookies and stuff - if you post something that you've said is an illegal link under Site Rules, you can't expect her to spend time evaluating it to determine whether you meant what you said. She'd probably (and rightfully) even be afraid to click that for fear of what she might see.

2. Our other site is being evaluated by Sigil for it's affiliate program status, and they require no haxor or pr0n content or links on any other site owned by the same person, so please understand if we are just a little gunshy about that.
